Advertised Job Summary:
The Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs is responsible for strategic and long-term planning for all academic and student affairs aspects for USC Union located in Union, South Carolina, with a location in Laurens, South Carolina. The Associate Dean is responsible for the academic curriculum, assessment, and evaluation of the curriculum. In addition, the Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the faculty and managing the processes through which teaching is conducted and administered in all aspects of Student Affairs, including creating a robust student life strategy specific to the student needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
•Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement of an innovative curriculum.
•Implements and assesses an innovative and coherent strategic plan for the campus's academic and student affairs programs.
•Coordinates with the faculty and the academic and student affairs staff to ensure quality, continuity of innovation, and integrity in academic and student issues.
•Leads ongoing efforts to report on and proactively analyze retention and attrition trends.
•Oversees the quality of instruction and course content of all academic programs in the classroom and online.
•Ensures academic and student affairs compliance with SACSCOC and University policy and procedures.
•Creates a culture across the campus that values a team-based and collaborative approach to supporting students.
•Knowledge of imminent academic trends likely to affect future educational offerings.
•Oversees processes in academic and student records, including contracts for faculty.
Academic Affairs:
•Direct supervisor of Executive Director for Enrollment Management (who oversees Admissions, Records, & Financial Aid, as well as Dual Credit and Student Recruitment)
•Direct supervisor of PC iCarolina Lab Coordinator
•Direct supervisor of all full-time and part-time faculty
•Responsible for faculty hiring priorities for full-time positions
•Responsible for mentoring faculty to ensure eventual success in the tenure & promotion process
•Conduct an annual administrative review of all full-time faculty
•Conduct annual EPMS job performance review of all full-time staff, reporting directly to the Associate Dean (e.g. Athletic Director, Academic Affairs support staff, Academic Success Center coordinator, Nursing Administrator, etc.)
•Responsible for identifying and hiring adjunct faculty
•Responsible for working with USC Columbia academic departments to secure approval for faculty to teach selected courses
•Responsible for planning course schedules & final exam schedules
•Responsible for supervision of academic division & faculty travel budgets
•Responsible for coordinating reports related to review of academic programs (e.g., Assessment, Blueprint, Institutional Effectiveness, etc.)
•Responsible for coordinating reports related to academic program modifications ( SACS & CHE ), including new academic sites (both regular and dual credit)
•Work with faculty regarding accreditation reports/issues related to associate degrees
•Responsible for review and revision of academic degree curricula
•Responsible for review & updating of USCU Bulletin
•Serve as a facilitator to resolve the conflict between students & faculty (e.g., grade disputes, violations of academic integrity, etc.)
•Coordinate annual student academic awards (and present them at awards ceremonies)
•Work directly with Records Officer to confirm completion of academic requirements by candidates for degrees
•Serve on Dean's Administrative Council
•Collaborate with other system Academic Deans regarding academic issues related to Palmetto College bachelor's degrees
Student Affairs:
•Responsible for developing strategies and implementing programs related to student retention & success (including academic advisement, early academic intervention, excessive student absences, etc.)
•Serve on Student Behavioral Intervention Team ( BIT )
•Title IX coordinator for students
The Associate Dean will teach at least two classes per academic year.
Must be willing to work at either location as needed.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
•Earned doctorate from an accredited university
•Substantial record of progressively responsible leadership that includes high-level administrative or managerial experience, advanced knowledge of and experience in higher education processes and policies and procedures
•Achievement in the criteria required for a faculty appointment with tenure and rank
•Experience with accreditation agencies/bodies
•Evidence of success with student enrollment growth and management
•Demonstrated record of sound financial management
•Proven ability to develop and foster good relationships with both internal campus stakeholders as well as external audiences such as local, state, and national agencies, officials, and donors
•Promote a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication, positive team building, and effective management of relationships
