Position Purpose and Overview:
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement, the Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is responsible for leading, collaborating and supporting the ongoing development and implementation of services provided by the Global Engagement Office. ISSS provides immigration advising for students and scholars at Creighton University and assists with cultural adjustment issues during their stay in the United States of America. This is accomplished through oversight, management, implementation of policies and compliance assurance; office communications through online, print and social media; advisor training; student and visiting scholar orientation and advising; and coordination of events serving international students and scholars. Supports the Global Engagement Office’s ability to bear overall institutional responsibility for international students once they are admitted to Creighton University and helps bring visiting scholars and researchers to Creighton University.

Essential Job Responsibilities include:

Manages F-1 student and J-1 research scholar and exchange student visa services; serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) for the Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS);

Administers all aspects of J-1 exchange student program including, admission, DS-2019 issuance, pre-arrival communications, and course registration.

Directs management of the SEVIS monitoring system and is responsible for the institution’s SEVIS recertification (F-1) and redesignation (J-1) through SEVP.

Ensures that the office uses technology to maximize the efficiency and timeliness of ISSS operations; maintains a current list of international students and scholars; produces reports for various agencies and/or University offices.

Assures compliance with any and all pertinent federal, state and university policies and regulations.

Recommends and interprets policies regarding international students and scholars.

Leads planning and implementation of innovative sessions and information materials for students and scholars including, but not limited to pre-arrival, new student orientation, ongoing orientation, workshops on immigration matters, taxes, OPT, CPT, employment, and culture shock; implements new and innovative student and scholar pre-arrival, orientation, advisement, welfare, insurance, and cultural and social programs.

Collaborates with the Director of International Student Admissions in the development and implementation of recruitment programs.

Supervises and evaluates the ISSS Coordinator; assures all AROs and DSOs for the university meet the required qualifications and updates them on federal regulations and procedures.

Sets standards for, monitors progress and reports outcomes related to ISSS area performance.

Remains current with all aspects relating to the field of international services within higher education. Maintains professional growth and the development of staff by participating in educational programs and professional organizations and activities to maintain knowledge of national trends and promote leading edge expertise in this area.

Provides presentations on any aspect of student/scholar immigration when requested. Responds to audit requests and reports on behalf of ISSS; is responsible for implementation of audit findings/recommendations.

Proposes, designs and implements campus wide events to increase integration of international students and scholars into the Creighton University community.

Serves on university committees upon request.

Represents the Global Engagement Office to the Creighton University community, relaying accurate information; actively participates in strategic planning and quality assurance processes for GEO.

Member of NAFSA and/or other international student education professional associations.

Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in higher education, counseling or related field.

Five (5) years of experience in ISSS. Preference given to candidates with at least three years of supervisory experience.

Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent residency (as required by U.S. Law).
