Job Details
The International Student Advisor supports international students on campus by offering visa and immigration advising; serving as the primary point-of-contact for sponsored and exchange students and advising them on various aspects of student life; assisting with orientation and other programs for international students; and collaborating with other units on campus to provide support and advocacy related to the successful integration of international students into the Miami University community. Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first class service and workplace flexibility. This position is approved for remote work on a hybrid basis following a successful period of onboarding. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason. Incumbent may work up to 40% remotely (1-2 days per week) based on a set departmental schedule.

The International Student Advisor will:
- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), advise F-1 and J-1 students on issues related to maintenance of legal status in the United States, utilize Sunapsis for case management, SEVIS reporting, and the processing of visa documents and other related paperwork.
- Holistically support international students by advising on issues related to financial concerns, academic challenges, cultural adaptation, and general wellbeing.
- Handle admission of exchange students to Miami University and support them through all stages of the exchange process.
- Advise sponsored students and exchange students on various aspects of student life, including billing, enrollment requirements, and transcript issuance.
- Serve as primary point-of-contact for sponsors and exchange partners.
- Work closely with Education Abroad Advisor to ensure reciprocity of exchanges and to provide opportunities for interaction between in-coming and out-going exchange students.
- Assist with international student orientation, programs, and workshops as needed.
Required: Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant professional work experience.
Consideration may be given to candidates with Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, International Education, or a closely related field, experience as a DSO or ARO, experience working with sponsored students and/or exchange students, and familiarity with Sunapsis.
