The Marketing and Communications Manager develops and executes day-to-day and long-term initiatives with the primary goal of enhancing the University’s visibility and reputation as a globally influential University. As the brand steward and storyteller for the Office of International Affairs, this person develops and manages a comprehensive communications strategy for the stem; implements and maintains communications and branding standards that align with the larger University strategy; produces effective, high-quality written, visual and digital communications; and serves as a campus resource and the liaison to University Communications and the communications team in Development and Alumni Relations. 1. Communicate and inform multiple audiences about the Office of International Affairs (OIA) (40%)
*Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to increase Lehigh’s local, national and international visibility as a globally influential University; contribute to the development and implementation of the overall OIA strategic plan
*Collaborate with faculty and staff within OIA and in other University offices and departments to ensure alignment between OIA and the University’s communications strategies and to ensure the identity and objectives of OIA are articulated in an authentic and cohesive manner
* Advise regarding campus communications to senior staff and leadership on topics related to OIA priorities and high-profile topics
*Develop a communication and engagement strategy for OIA social media channels; develop content, campaigns and initiatives across each channel to reach and grow diverse audiences; establish key performance targets, track and analyze campaign and content performance and assess data to inform future efforts
*Oversee the OIA website, including content creation and control, policy and procedure administration and website consulting and training; measure the effectiveness of the website via qualitative research data and adapt the website to reflect data; collaborate with Lehigh’s Web and Mobile Services to maintain and update software
*Conduct research to identify communications trends, tools and best practices; make recommendations to improve the user experience, including testing plans and analysis of website traffic, Google Analytics and social media insights
*Partner with University Communications, faculty and staff to obtain media attention for research and innovation both within the OIA, and also for the University community
2. Marketing Services (30%)
*Work with OIA units to create a consistent yet flexible identity across various communications channels; create training, tools and processes to ensure best practices and enable units to maintain brand consistency
*Lead branding/sub-branding efforts, ensuring materials produced on behalf of the university and OIA conform to established University branding standards
*Provide strategic advice and consultation on marketing objectives, communications strategies and plans to ensure consistency and an appropriate level of professionalism in communications across the stem
*Serve as primary liaison to University Communications and Development and Alumni Relations communications team to provide direction and ensure alignment of marketing strategy and brand coherence
*Consult with other University divisions about communications products and tools appropriate for Lehigh’s international markets
3. Content, Visibility and Editorial Services (20%)
*Conceptualize, develop and direct the design and production of marketing communications and editorial content in support of OIA
*Convey complex messages in a variety of media including electronic and print, at varying levels of detail and technical depth appropriate for diverse audiences
*Generate creative ideas on how to best present content in text, photos, video, audio and graphics; conduct research and interviews; write and edit articles, stories and other media for internal or external publications
*Collaborate with University Communications and Public Affairs in developing and directing media visibility strategies and provide editorial content as requested
*Develop compelling, effective content for print, e-mail, websites, social media and other platforms
*Produce formal communications including FAQs, proposals, presentations, reports, talking points, etc.
*Recruit and train student workers; set priorities, plan and assign work, monitor and review work performance, mentor and advise
*Engage and manage the work of freelancers and consultants as related to communications and marketing projects
*Lead vendor/supplier bidding and selection processes for external creative services and oversee various phases of development to generate communication materials in various formats
4. Crisis Management Communications (10%)
*Provide strategic advice and communications strategy and write time-sensitive and effective messages to the campus community, as a member of the team that manages crises and emergency preparedness and response
*Manage web and mobile platforms to disseminate and update emergency messages and periodic updates
*Develop and implement OIA crisis planning exercises, educational efforts related to safety/crisis response and debriefing sessions
*Assist with training staff with print and digital crisis communications
*Anticipate and respond to sensitive issues; develop a plan of action that considers all constituencies and provide related talking points tailored to each group
*Be capable of crafting and distributing urgent/time-sensitive messages to respond to safety/crisis situations
