The UNITED STATES-SRI LANKA FULBRIGHT Commission SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Applications are invited from American and Sri Lankan citizens for the position of Executive Director of the United States–Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC). US-SLFC is a non-profit, bi-national U.S - Sri Lankan educational organization based in Colombo that administers the Fulbright Program, EducationUSA, and other international education and exchange programs. The Executive Director reports to a binational board of governmental and non-governmental appointees and is the public face of the Commission.

Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operations of the flagship international academic exchange program between Sri Lanka and the United States, while developing, planning, and implementing a strategic vision to ensure the continued success of the Fulbright Program with Sri Lanka. S/he is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and legislation in both countries, and for responding to the changing needs and opportunities in Sri Lankan and U.S. higher education and society.

Qualifications: Must have at least ten years of relevant work experience (higher education and research, academic mobility, educational exchange); familiarity with U.S. and Sri Lankan higher education; substantial experience in program, fiscal, and personnel management to ensure the highest level of teamwork and organizational effectiveness; experience in developing strategic partnerships or fundraising; strong interpersonal, public-speaking, and diplomatic skills.  Experience working for or coordinating with the USG highly valued.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree from a U.S. university
  • Thorough understanding of U.S. academic institutions as well as the education system and culture of Sri Lanka
  • Proven track record of dynamic leadership skills to engage and energize a board of directors, creative problem solving, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and reporting, budget oversight, fundraising, marketing, public relations, and team-based management
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication and excellent relationship management skills; proficiency in English required 
  • Ability to interact and engage effectively with American and Sri Lankan academic communities and institutions, government officials, NGOs, alumni networks, and the private sector
  • Talent at leading, developing, and retaining a multicultural, high-performance team, delivering on a strategic vision, and implementing annual reviews
  • Commitment to Fulbright values and to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace, as well as in the Fulbright Program

A two-year, renewable contract will be offered to the successful candidate.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position requires domestic travel within Sri Lanka and an annual trip to the United States for consultations. Relocation support may be available for a successful candidate located outside of Sri Lanka.
