The Office of Experiential Learning and Immersion Vanderbilt and the Global Education Office (GEO) seek energetic, creative, and team-oriented candidates to advise students and provide programmatic support for global education, experiential learning, and Immersion Vanderbilt. Immersion Vanderbilt calls for each undergraduate student to participate in an intensive immersive experience that takes place in and beyond the classroom and culminates in the creation of a final project. Immersion Vanderbilt requires campus wide involvement from all schools and colleges. The Office of Experiential Learning and Immersion Vanderbilt synchronizes efforts across campus, functioning to provide central support and communication so that students and faculty have the resources they need.
The Study Abroad Advisor will contribute to the university's mission of educating the leaders of tomorrow by advising and preparing undergraduate students for overseas study experiences. The Study Abroad Advisor will master the details of a range of study abroad programs and become an expert in a personal portfolio of programs. Characteristic duties include, but are not limited to, providing guidance to students, and serving as a point of contact for campus partners, hosting workshops, advising sessions, and other events about study abroad and experiential learning. The position will collaborate with faculty, colleges/schools, staff, campus partner offices, and programs across the University and beyond in support of the mission of the Office of Experiential Learning and Immersion.
About the Work Unit:
The Office of Experiential Learning and Immersion Vanderbilt reports to the Assistant Provost for Immersion Vanderbilt and Experiential Learning and is responsible for overseeing an initiative that came out of the Vanderbilt Academic Strategic Plan. The initiative calls for each undergraduate student to engage in a mentored experience inside and outside of the classroom, culminating in the creation of a tangible final project.
Students can engage in several distinct experiential units, including but not limited to: internships, community engagement, musical composition, and undergraduate research. Through experiential learning and Immersion Vanderbilt students will explore their passions, transform ideas into action, and make a difference in the world.
The Global Education Office (GEO), a unit within the Office of Experiential Learning and Immersion Vanderbilt, is committed to preparing global citizens by providing innovative and high-quality international learning experiences that build on Vanderbilt University's commitment to academic excellence, global engagement, and community service. The Study Abroad Adviser will join a talented, high-functioning team of eight in a highly collaborative and mutually supportive office.
The Study Abroad Adviser will work closely with all members of the GEO and Experiential Learning and Immersion Vanderbilt teams and will also collaborate with faculty and staff in a wide variety of roles across the campus.

- Advise students on all aspects of study abroad, including funding opportunities, and on Immersion Vanderbilt opportunities abroad.
- Coordinate and manage logistics of study abroad program portfolio, including applications, admissions, program details and costs, required visas, and more.
- Serve as liaison to study abroad providers, institutions, exchange partners, Vanderbilt faculty, staff, and administration relative to programs in advisor portfolio.
- Develop and maintain a general understanding of trends in international education, local contexts of specific countries, and academic needs of Vanderbilt students.
- Serve as study abroad liaison to Vanderbilt School of Engineering, working closely with relevant faculty and deans in VUSE to, e.g., identify curricular matches for students in engineering majors. Support cross-training of global education advisors to understand curricular matches for engineering students.
- Promote programs and study abroad generally through information sessions, in-class sessions, etc. Assist with coordinating, creating, and implementing Immersion Vanderbilt/experiential capstone showcases and events.
- Support students abroad with housing, academic, and student support issues as they arise. Address other issues raised by students and families, escalating to global education leadership team, as necessary.
- Visit study away sites to assess and familiarize, following best practices and processes established for theunit.
- Identify gaps in student support and services that pertain to students' academic health, safety, financial, and personal needs/concerns, including equity/diversity/inclusion gaps, and escalate to appropriate leadership team.
- Serve as a mentor for undergraduate Immersion experiences and advise students drafting Immersive Experience Declaration forms and post-experience self-reflections.
- Track students' Immersion Vanderbilt progress to ensure advancement by key benchmarking dates.
- Contribute to the Immersion Vanderbilt opportunity database as needed.
- Collaborate with the university's Office of Global Safety to prepare students for study abroad, and to help resolve situations that might arise for students on-site.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Relationships:

Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- Two years of relevant work experience or the equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonalskillsand the ability to interact with students of all backgrounds are necessary.
- Self-motivation, with a positive and problem-solving attitude is necessary.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team is necessary.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines is necessary.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software tools (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and other software tools for communication, analysis, and office operations is preferred.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends is necessary.
