Education Abroad administers academic year, semester, and summer study abroad programs hosted by Temple's overseas campuses in Rome, Italy, and Tokyo, Japan; offered through exchange and other institutional partners around the globe and developed and led by Temple faculty members. Enrolling and serving an average of 1,100 Temple and non-Temple students a year, the Education Abroad team is committed to providing transformative global learning experiences that prepare the diverse students from Temple and our U.S. partner institutions to develop as engaged global citizens, collective problem-solvers, and leaders in their chosen field.
The Assistant Director manages a portfolio of study abroad programs, including the advising, enrollment, support, preparation, and participation of those students; leads a consistent and inclusive approach to pre-departure education for study abroad across the program management team; and serves as the primary staff member responsible for the study abroad application system, Terra Dotta, and pre-departure Canvas course.
Reporting to the Associate Director for Programming, the Assistant Director manages the day-to-day operations of their assigned program(s), from recruitment, admissions, retention, pre-departure, student course registration, health and safety, and evaluation. With the Associate Director, he/she/zi designs a comprehensive plan to prepare students with diverse needs to succeed while abroad, addressing travel and immigration; academic, language, and cultural issues; health, disability, and wellbeing; race, gender, and identity issues; financial considerations, and more. The Assistant Director implements the approach across all programs and supports Program Managers in revising and updating materials regularly. They lead the team in application system upgrades, changes, and troubleshooting.
The Assistant Director provides additional support and assistance to the leadership of Education Abroad on higher-level tasks and responsibilities and promotes international education across the university and at partner institutions.
