Position SummaryLocated 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The individual in this position is a strong proponent of the open access community college mission who continuously evaluates processes, policies, and practices to ensure a barrier-free, equitable admissions experience. The director oversees the admissions department - including recruitment, admissions, a call center, and international student compliance - and provides leadership in developing and assessing innovative recruitment strategies and initiatives designed to attract new market segments and expand the student base. The director develops, trains, and leads a high-performance team. Working collaboratively with key departments and committees, the director will create, implement, monitor, and evaluate a college-wide Recruitment Plan. The director will develop strong partnerships/alliances internally with learning divisions of the college (Division of Learning and Continuing Education and Workforce Development), and externally with public and private schools and community partners through timely communication and clearly established goals.

Department Leadership
Directs the work of the Admissions office, including recruitment, and the Admissions Services Center (Call Center).Manages day-to-day department operations, including monitoring and evaluating the activities of the department.Selects, supervises, and evaluates the professional and support staff assigned to the department.Provides or secures training for staff, to ensure adherence to laws, policies, procedures, processes, and excellent service. Oversees the development and administration of a balanced budget.Provides leadership to ensure the utilization of a variety of effective and best-practices in admissions, recruitment, and call centers, to ensure high quality delivery of student support services.Ensures that services meet the needs of both credit and continuing education students and integrates services for special populations into programs in the department (returning adults, high school students, etc.).Ensures that admissions and residency policies are enforced.Implements new technology to better serve current and prospective students. Manages relevant content for admissions, dual/concurrent, and orientation websites.Develops initiatives to increase enrollment and utilize data for continuous improvement.Develops an annual recruitment calendar with accompanying goals, intended outcomes, and an evaluation plan.Develops and monitor the AOD unit assessment plan (Yearly Game Plan) and report yearly outcomes.Participate in the marketing of student services through preparation of materials for the college catalog, student handbook, brochures, the web, and social media.Oversee the CRM (Ellucian Recruit) to ensure effective communication to suspects, prospects, and applicants at each stage of the enrollment funnel.
Data Analytics and Assessment
Analyze activity at each stage of the enrollment funnel and develop strategies to move suspects, prospects, and applicants through to the next stage of enrollment. Provide a metrics report on all admissions activities three times per year (fall, spring, summer), highlighting tactics that increased enrollment.
International Student Enrollment
Responds to inquiries of the U.S. Immigration Service regarding international students.Prepares I-20s, enters student information into SEVIS data base, advises students on F-1 status and monitors their academic progress.Serves as the advisor for international students.
Internal and External Collaboration
Represents the Admissions Department (AOD) on college wide committees and meetings, especially campus committees that directly impact the vision of the department.Participates in Maryland community colleges admissions affinity group.Develops strong partnerships/alliances with academic departments and the college community through timely communication and clearly established goals. Minimum Education and TrainingA bachelor’s degree is required.Five years’ experience in student service area with progressively greater responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
A master’s degree in education or a related field is preferred.Prior experience in a community college preferred.Prior experience in a college admissions office preferred.Experience with international students preferred.
