Summary

The Law School seeks to recruit and enroll the most talented members of the J.D. candidate pool to our student body. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Financial Aid and the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, the Associate Director is responsible for supporting the Assistant Dean with the implementation of financial aid strategies for the recruitment and retention of the Law School's JD class. The Associate Director manages various institutional programs which provide financial assistance to our current students and graduates of the Law School. The Associate Director produces high level reporting used in financial forecasts so that the Assistant Dean can predict and allocate funds effectively.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In a high-volume, highly selective admissions and financial aid office, the successful candidate will:
  • Serve as primary financial aid counselor for J.D., LL.M. and M.L students, which includes helping applicants and current students make educated decisions about financing a legal education
  • Manage the Law School's Loan Repayment Assistance Program which provides over $600K in financial support each year. Analyze applications, determine eligibility and approve awards. Collaborate with the Toll Public Interest Center and our Career Planning & Professionalism Office to advance the goals of the program. Provide accurate and comprehensive counseling to current students, alumni and the broader public service community
  • Manage Summer Federal Work Study Program which includes determining eligibility and educating students about the program; maintain on-line application process, work with other departments to incorporate the Work Study Program into the Law School's summer public interest funding initiative. Coordinate with the University's Student Employment Office to ensure that funding is disbursed to recipients in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for performing need analysis used to determine eligibility for financial assistance. Review and analyze complex financial documents, including federal taxes, special tax schedules, corporate returns and financial aid forms so that funding is appropriately allocated
  • Manage endowed selection process. Coordinate survey distribution and organize data to facilitate our matching process. Work collaboratively with our Development Office to ensure they have the information and data required for the donor stewardship process
  • Manage all technical operations for the financial aid office which includes financial aid notifications, need analysis and financial aid databases
  • Supervise and train Financial Aid Project Coordinator in all aspects of financial aid policies and procedures. Provide direction to seasonal part-time administrative staff
  • Direct & coordinate Law School's Financial Planning Series. Help students develop and implement long term debt management strategies
  • Responsible for all financial aid on-line communications via the external and internal website; ensuring accuracy of all information on the site; including the outside scholarship guide, loan information, work study and financial aid policies
  • Manage financial aid and scholarship email accounts. Keep prospective students informed about the status of their financial aid applications and scholarship selections
  • Serve as a liaison to the University Student Financial Services Office, lending institutions and various scholarship foundations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Associate Dean to facilitate successful day to day operations of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid

QUALIFICATIONS:

A B.A./B.S. required; two to three years of experience in financial aid or three to five years of related experience, preferably in an educational or customer service environment. Ability to work with culturally diverse constituencies; outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex financial information to sophisticated constituents; working knowledge of data processing programs and the aptitude to learn new systems, ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy in a highly confidential and professional setting; ability to handle multiple tasks, to work independently, and to work collaboratively in an office that is characterized by high student expectations, a high volume of applications and visitors, and deadline pressure; working knowledge of university systems or similar databases preferred.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
