The Admissions Intern serves as a member of the Admissions team, focusing on recruiting prospective students to support the College’s strategic plan. The Admissions Intern represents Penn College to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, and other individuals and organizations involved in the college selection process. The intern will be exposed to opportunities in higher education that include recruiting prospective applicants and supporting applicants through enrollment.
Education:
-Enrollment in final year of bachelor’s degree or recently completed bachelor’s degree. (Minimum)
-Enrollment in a graduate program in Student Affairs, Higher Education, School Counseling, or a relevant discipline. (Desired)
Experience:
-Prior experience in college admissions, school counseling, or student affairs. (Desired)
Abilities and Skills:
-Developed organizational skills. (Minimum)
-Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with prospective students, parents, high school personnel, College staff and the public. (Minimum)
-Possession of a valid driver’s license. (Minimum)
-Sensitivity to the expectations of students, parents, and staff. (Minimum)
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. (minimum)
-Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities. (Minimum)
-Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. (Minimum)
-Ability to build strong working relationships with diverse groups. (Minimum)
-Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills. (Minimum)
-Ability to make decisions and exercise independent judgment in a time-sensitive environment. (Minimum)
-Solid technical skills including Microsoft Office. (Minimum)
-Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines. (Minimum)

-Ability to conduct admissions activities with the highest level of integrity. (Minimum)
-Maintain an understanding of trends in higher education. (Minimum)

Essential (unless otherwise noted):
-Develop goals for the internship experience.
-Participate in on-campus recruitment events including but not limited to Open House, Accepted Student Day, group tours, and personal tours.
-Participate in off-campus recruitment activities in Lycoming and surrounding counties (e.g., college fairs, high school visits, etc.).
-Participate in virtual recruitment activities including but not limited to virtual information sessions and virtual college fairs.
-Support the admission counseling team in providing complete support and follow-up to prospective students and their families via multiple modes of communication.
-Support the admission counseling team in implementing effective strategies to manage and drive inquiries and applicants through the admissions funnel.
-Collaborate with offices campus-wide to provide information students need to convert from accepted to enrolled.
-Effectively use the office’s constituent relationship management system (CRM), including ensuring data integrity and timeliness of data entry.
-Assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of special projects and other duties as assigned. (Marginal)
-Maintain working knowledge of admissions policies and procedures, including special admissions requirements.
-Maintain working knowledge of all guidelines related to confidentiality of student information and records (FERPA).
-Maintain a thorough working knowledge of all aspects of the College’s matriculation process beyond Admissions, including financial aid, placement testing, new student advising, course scheduling, bill paying, orientation, residence life, move-in, etc.
-Any incumbent who has the capacity to communicate in a language other than English will help prospective and enrolled students/parents speaking such language with any aspect of the application and enrollment process. (Marginal)
Physical Standards:
-Some lifting required not exceeding 50 pounds.
-Some night driving
Special Job Features:
-Temporary part-time positions not to exceed 25 hours/week.
-Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
-Some travel to other campuses may be required, with accommodations available if necessary.
-State Police, Child Line, and FBI fingerprint clearances under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) required before employment can begin.
-This position is subject to a background check.
$18.26 per hour
