Stanford Libraries' world-class collections include depository collections for the United States (FDLP), State of California, United Nations (UN), International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the European Union (EU). The collections include information, statistics and data from: the United Nations, the European Union, and other Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs), such as the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
About the Position:
Reporting to the Head of the Social Sciences Resource Group (SSRG), the Local, State, and International Government Information Librarian develops and manages collections focused on local (county, municipality, etc.), state, and international government information. Working in close collaboration with the United States Federal Government Information Librarian, this position selects and acquires relevant print and digital materials from governmental and non-governmental organizations, including official government publications, historical records, statistics and data (e.g. geospatial & tabular). Along with collection development, the Local, State, and International Government Information Librarian provides advanced interdisciplinary research consultations and instruction across departments and programs in need of government statistics, data and reports. The Librarian participates with a variety of other library units (e.g. Research Data Services, Acquisitions, Digital Library Systems and Services) to provide holistic library support for social science research.

The expected pay range for this position at Librarian 2 is $87,000 to $106,000, and at Librarian 3 is $104,000 to $129,000 per annum. Core Duties:
- Plan, develop, evaluate, and select library research materials and information resources (in all formats), including the responsibility for collection management and preservation, decision-making for all aspects of Stanford's international, UN, IGO, EU, UK, state and local government information & documents, with a special focus on the California Depository Program.
- Manage a collection development budget.
- Identify and acquire relevant data and statistical sources working collaboratively with colleagues in the libraries on the management, access, and preservation of the data.
- Advise Stanford faculty, researchers, and students on the use of government information and data by consulting and responding to teaching and research needs, keeping apprised of latest statistical, data and local government resources.
- Provide service to library users through instructional sessions, workshops, online guides, library tours, bibliographic and reference services.
- Develop special projects related to the preservation of government information including web archiving projects.
- Collaborate with other librarians to assure coverage of interdisciplinary areas.
- Solicit, assess, and manage gift collections, including donor communications.
- Contribute to the planning and establishment of programs and policies within the Social Science Resource Group (SSRG) in Green Library.
- Collaborate with other library staff and library units such as the Social Science Data Curator, Research Data Services, Preservation, Acquisitions, Metadata, Digital Library Systems and Services, and the Stanford Geospatial Center, with the aim of creating, preserving, and promoting access to collections.
- Serve on library committees and manage library projects, as appropriate.
- Represent Stanford University Libraries in national and international meetings and organizations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience: For consideration at the Librarian 2 rank.
- Advanced Degree in Library and Information Science or an advanced degree in a Social Science academic discipline (e.g. public policy, political science, human rights, international relations) with a demonstrated understanding of the role of government information collections at academic libraries and two or more years of relevant experience in an academic library setting or a combination of education and relevant experience such as, working in a government agency reporting unit or a government agency library.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with international, UN, EU, UK, and/or California document collections and services.
- Demonstrated awareness of current trends in government information content, formats, and dissemination methods.
- Knowledge of public records request procedures for obtaining government information.
- Knowledge of and experience in the operations of major academic or research libraries with government information depository programs.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collegially with staff at all levels as well as with faculty and students is required. Ability to perform effectively in and contribute successfully to a diverse, multicultural workplace environment is also required.
- Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated experience with current technologies and information systems, and their application to the delivery of library services to students and faculty.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, creative, and innovative attitude.
- Demonstrated skills to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Other Relevant Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities May Include:
- Demonstrated information seeking skills, including database and internet searching, and familiarity with social sciences resources in digital formats.
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging social science research methodologies, as evidenced by completion of relevant graduate-level coursework and/or a record of research and original publication(s) in the social sciences.
- Successful experience providing academic library instruction and public services.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, creative, and innovative attitude.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and social science data.

In addition to the above-mentioned education, skills and abilities for the rank of Librarian 2 rank, the Librarian 3 requirements include:
- Five or more years of experience with government document collecting and services in research library settings and/or public policy research, academic library, or related setting with evidence of capacity to work at a higher level of responsibility for a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated potential to make professional accomplishments relevant to the responsibilities of this position. These may include scholarly publications, teaching, and/or professional publications and presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in the acquisition, management and curation of social science data and participation in provisioning of related data workflows.
- Experience with web archiving processes and procedures.
Physical Requirements*:
- Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
- Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
- Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.
