The Admission Reader is the preliminary source for undergraduate student application review, following in-house training sessions, written guidelines, and best practices set forth by the strategic planning of the Enrollment Management division. The review is part of a holistic application evaluation valuing a range of qualities including academic performance, outside activities, community service, diversity and leadership. This seasonal position reports to the Director of Undergraduate Admission Recruitment.
Review Admission Applications
Review applications, transcripts, resumes, and other required components of the admission process.
Read all essays and use personal assessment as directed to grade the applications according to current holistic review criteria.
Flag and/or report notable information (i.e., high honors, judicial issues, special requests).
Consult with full-time regular admission officers when reading more complex applications that do not necessarily follow the pre-set guidelines.
Recommend Admission Acceptance and Rejection
Recommend acceptance based on the holistic review criteria set forth in your reader binder, and reviewed during reader training, as well as professional judgment.
Forward recommendations to a full-time admission team member for second review.
Record Keeping and Tracking
Report any trends found in applications, to include schools consistently providing questionable GPA (which results in recalculations), decrease or increase in honors/advanced placement classes, and changes in general activities.
Log activity and provide log to supervisor during and at the end of the reading season.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
Requires strong analytical, reading and writing skills.
Demonstrates a strong commitment and understanding of the benefit in recruiting a diverse student body.
Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, specifically Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in an Admission Office.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
