The Assistant Director (AD) of H-1B and Permanent Residency Operations will manage the operations for the H-1B and Permanent Residency visa categories at NYU. The AD will be the supervisor of the Graduate Student Employee and supervise their work. The AD will continually interpret immigration regulations and governmental guidance to develop procedures and policies. The AD will file immigrant and nonimmigrant employment petitions with the Department of Labor and Department of Homeland Security for the H-1B, E-3, O-1, TN and Permanent Residence immigration classifications; provide immigration and personal services/advice to foreign national faculty, researchers, scholars and their dependents; advise on a variety of topics including employment, travel, community resources. The AD will serve as the programming manager for International Faculty and Research Scholar Services. The AD will supervise records set up and maintenance; facilitate regular reporting and data management; train and collaborate with hiring units. The AD will manage and implement special projects, including projects to digitize and streamline processes within the office. The AD will handle and advise on complex cases, including cases escalated from colleagues, and intervene with consular, State Department, and immigration officials when necessary. The AD serves as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 program and University compliance officer in implementation of US Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) regulations for exchange visitor faculty, researchers and visiting scholars and their dependents. Train academic department administrators. Coordinate OGS cross-cultural programs.
Qualifications
Required Education:Bachelor's degreePreferred Education:Master's Degree in cross cultural communication, international education, higher education, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL, or related field.Required Experience:5+ years in advising on relevant immigration regulations and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience interpreting and implementing federal regulations in an institution of higher education. Experience training and presenting.Preferred Experience:5+ years experience in managing an exchange visitor program in a higher education setting and processing non immigrant petitions. Experience in supervision and with database management.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to communicate detailed instructions clearly. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Fluency in or familiarity with at least one language other than English; experience living outside the US. Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Web- based applications. Completion of NAFSA J-1, H-1B, Employment-Based Permanent Residence Professional Development Programs.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $66,000.00 to USD $81,400.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
