The Associate Dean for Student Affairs provides support to students from pre-enrollment through graduation. In collaboration with the Dean of Medical Students and other Associate Deans, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs works to maintain an enriching, safe environment that maximizes student learning and professional development and compliments the academic programs of the institution. In the role of Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the medical school, the individual will contribute to student recruitment, student academic advising, career advising, student support, student discipline, and student advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Contribute to the core functions of the Office of Student Affairs in the Medical School as follows:

  • Provide academic, personal, and career advising to medical students in group and individual sessions and refer to appropriate offices as indicated.
  • Support application to residency and complete a portion of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letters.
  • Participate in MS1 Orientation activities, White Coat Ceremony, Transitions to Clerkship, Match Day, Commencement, and other medical school events.
  • Promote professionalism and appropriate treatment of students and handle student complaints, concerns regarding student behavior, and required discipline.
  • Provide support for recruitment and admission strategies and implementation including weekend admissions presentations and participation on the Admissions Committee as ex officio member.
Additional duties include:
  • Providing advocacy for students via participation on key institutional and school committees.
  • Working with Student Leadership Council, medical school student government, and other student organizations.
  • Assisting with planning for class meetings and STRIVE sessions.
  • Attending Clerkship Committee meetings, assume responsibility for feed forward, and contribute to a coaching program for students' personal, skill, and professional development.
  • Developing CV and personal statement workshops for third year students. Participating in Student Affairs outreach social activities such as MS1 breakfasts and MS2 dinners.
  • Other responsibilities include assisting with accreditation preparation, and others as arise.
Job Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree required. Minimum of 5 years of experience, medical student teaching and involvement preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership competency and ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple constituencies (faculty, staff, students, etc.) Strong interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with proven ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, high pressure environment, demonstrated problem solving skills.
