General Notes
The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) works with a broad range of student, faculty, staff, and community constituents to help the university connect its intellection resources to communities across Texas and offer education to those who may face the greatest challenges in accessing it. Under DDCE Global Initiatives is the Global Leadership and Social Impact (GLSI) program which aims to create access to study abroad opportunities for underserved students. GLSI was founded ten years ago at UT Austin and has taken over 500 students abroad. Another program within DDCE is the Monarch Program which supports students who are undocumented, hold temporary status, and/or are from mixed status families. Monarch provides tailored support and resources for undocumented students and advocates for the undocumented community on campus.
Purpose
Under the direction of the Associate Director of DDCE Global and Monarch, the Student Development Specialist will participate in the planning, development, and implementation of programming and services offered by DDCE Global and Monarch to support underserved students.

Responsibilities
- Supports the Associate Director in leading program coordination and recruitment for DDCE Global and Monarch
- Leads outreach, communication, and marketing efforts related to program promotion of DDCE Global and the Monarch Program
- Assists in the management of undergraduate interns who serve as Global Student Fellows (GSF) and Monarch Ambassadors
- Facilitates workshops, presentations, events, and trainings for DDCE Global and the Monarch Program
- Provides advising and mentoring to students that participate in DDCE Global and the Monarch Program
- Assists in the development of resources for DDCE Global and Monarch students
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, social work or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience
- Experience working in education and with students, specifically direct experience with undergraduate students
- Experience in international education and/or education abroad or a related field
- Experience advising, counseling, and/or mentoring students who are undocumented, first-generation to college, low-income, underserved, and/or have immigrant backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and coordinate services, programming, and events
- Outstanding written, digital, and oral communication skills including the ability to make effective presentations, describe programs and provide information with clarity
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, productively, and sensitively with students, faculty, staff and parents/family/guardians per the standards and practices of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and other relevant policies and best practices
- Exercise professional judgement, discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity
- Ability to travel locally, nationally, and/or internationally throughout the year

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledgeable and have subject matter expertise on trends with education abroad especially related to creating access to underserved students
- Knowledgeable on subject matter related to immigration policy, undocumented students' needs and concerns
- Experience working, traveling and/or living abroad with knowledge of working within a culturally diverse population
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and coordinate services/programs that promote educational support for underserved student populations
- Knowledgeable in the areas of advising, mentoring, programming, intercultural communication, and programming
- Creativity and the ability to lead others and create an atmosphere of comradery and teamwork
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing dynamics and policies in higher education and domestic/international immigration and travel policies
- Experience with marketing tools such as Canva and Mailchimp
Salary Range
