We are seeking a highly self motivated individual to recruit, educate and promote the MT Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) to prospective students, their families and youth related agencies across the state. Responsibilities include assessing marketing and recruitment needs for assigned areas, identifying and implementing outreach opportunities, collaborating with educational, civic and youth organizations to promote MYCA opportunities, benefits and requirements, and performing a variety of communication activities to increase awareness. This position actively pursues a variety of outreach efforts and conducts interviews and completes preliminary evaluations with prospective youth and their families.
Must have demonstrated ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the Department. Females and minorities are encouraged to apply.
This position is located in Dillon.
This position is eligible to participate in a Cadet Recruiting Incentive award. There is a potential to earn up to an additional $6,000 annually, if all requirements are met in the award criteria.

Education: Bachelors degree in psychology, communications, social science, human services, education or a related field and
Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible related experience including experience working with youth in personal, vocational, or academic programs. Previous work experience with at-risk youth is preferred. Previous work experience in sales is preferred.
Alternative: Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
This position requires knowledge of the concepts and theories of marketing, sales, recruiting, public relations, youth counseling, human behavior, crisis intervention, education, and deviant behavior. Requires skill in networking and using the organization to its best advantage; strategic planning; providing effective leadership, negotiation and mediation; developing effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and agencies; and in developing approaches to sensitive issues which have significant and long-term impacts on program participants.
The successful candidate must have strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a large variety of audiences ranging from high-risk youths and their families to school and government officials. Requires the ability to present MYCA information to a variety of audiences; develop or adapt recruitment techniques to individual cases; plan; organize, gather information, conduct research, facilitate discussions and meeting, consider the future impact of current decisions, recognize situational subtleties and nuances, communicate these complex concepts effectively, manage contacts, and to remain calm and professional, and respond articulately under significant pressure.
Requires the ability to act as a role model for program participants and maintain standards of MYCA; must be self-motivated, a self-starter and able to perform effectively without direct supervision; this position requires the ability to schedule and maintain an organized and cost effective appointment and travel schedule.
Predominant work is performed in a dynamic academic and residence life environment. The position is often exposed to volatile and/or physical circumstances with at-risk youth and is expected to manage and mediate confrontational situations with discretion and tact. Requires strict adherence with MYCA policies and procedure governing professional conduct, interactions with participants, and responses to contentious and/or emergency situations. Requires the ability to move quickly throughout the facility (including stairs and other accessibility barriers) to respond to emergencies.
This position requires extensive statewide travel (50% to 75% of the year).
