Summary:

This position is a full-time position that reports to the Director of International Programs and Services. This position will advise the international student population on all matters related to their immigration status, maintain student SEVIS records and assist the Assistant Director with workshops and information sessions held for international students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serving as a designated school official (DSO), advising Lynn University's international student body on all matters related to visas and immigration status in addition to academic, social and cultural issues unique to international students.
  • Submitting and updating information required by the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) and informing international students of their responsibilities for maintaining proper immigration status.
  • Advising international students on how to secure social security numbers, driver's licenses, bank accounts, etc.
  • Working closely with the Office of Admission to facilitate the issuance of new initial I-20s
  • Assisting and participating in orientation activities each semester to include immigration check-in, immigration orientation sessions and social activities for the international student and parent population.
  • Collaborating effectively with faculty, staff and student groups in the promotion of intercultural awareness, international education and global competency
  • Promoting and identifying best means of communicating information about IPS events and programs
  • Planning and implementing workshops, orientations, study abroad fairs and cultural events in collaboration with the Assistant Directors and other IPS team members. This may include driving students to off-campus cultural activities.
  • Assisting other staff members in providing student assistance at the front desk, ensuring consistent customer service throughout the work day.
  • Regularly participating in professional development opportunities to remain current on immigration regulations, best practices in the field of International Education and database maintenance.
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required for special programs and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.
  • At least one year of professional experience as an international student advisor/DSO or similar role working directly with international students in an educational setting
  • Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive 12-passenger van for excursions
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Legal Permanent Resident (per federal regulations governing who can serve as a Designated School Official (DSO)).
  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines while working in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to think critically and solve practical problems with multiple and complex variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of hands-on experience with the SEVIS
  • Experience working with Sunapsis or other batch related immigration software.
  • Proficiency in another language besides English.
  • Experience living, working or studying in another country.
