Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the International Student Support Specialist serves as the Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer to issue all initial immigration documentation for international students and ensures a seamless initial experience to the University. The Specialist is the primary liaison to admitted international students for pre-arrival, orientation, housing, and arrival issues, and supports the Director with data reporting for international student enrollment.
*Note: This is a temporary part-time (up to 20 hours/week) assignment for approximately six (6) months, with the potential for extension.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as Designated School Official (DSO), responsible for reviewing and processing initial Form I-20s for all incoming students. When needed, support all aspects of SEVIS record management, including but not limited to registration, validation, termination, change of status, and reinstatement.

Provides assistance issuing DS-2019s and other J-1 visa related support as needed.

Prioritizes and organizes workload on a daily basis to keep up with an always-increasing volume. Responsible for documenting visa issuance and denials and all I-20 or DS-2019 updates.

Manages data flow between the University’s systems and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of information shared.

Assists with Slate mailings, queries, and report generation.

Prepares reports on application and new enrollment trends and projections; compiles, summarizes, and analyzes data for recommendations for changes or improvements.

Responds to new student inquiries regarding Form I-20 application status and other basic inquiries, as well as any questions regarding the services and programs provided by Montclair State University.

Establishes and maintains communication and cooperative working relationships with University key stakeholders to increase recruitment opportunities for the University.

Assists with planning and participates in the International Student Orientation.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
-
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
-
Minimum of one year of experience working as a DSO.
-
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Outlook, database management.

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
-
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to take initiative.

Must be a US citizen or permanent resident to function as the DSO and ARO.
PREFERRED:
-
Prior experience with Banner, Slate, and Terra Dotta.
-
Prior experience planning large events such as orientation.
-
Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of students and offer appropriate solutions.
-
Fluency in one or more languages.
