The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) is seeking an Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Executive Director of Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) with a primary role of providing leadership and strategic direction for BOSP programs that embody Stanford’s commitment to liberal education and experiential learning. The BOSP unit includes a home office on Stanford’s main campus and nine global centers (Berlin, Cape Town, Florence, Kyoto, Madrid, New York, Oxford, Paris, and Santiago). BOSP also operates short-term faculty-led seminars during the summer in various locations and offers quarter-length programs in Australia, Hong Kong, and Istanbul via partnership agreements with local universities. Nearly half of all undergraduates study abroad during their time at Stanford.
In this role, you will work closely with BOSP’s faculty director, global and home office staff, and campus partners to set and advance BOSP’s mission to provide academically excellent programs and transformative educational experiences in global settings. The Executive Director (ED) plays a key role in aligning the work and goals between the global centers and home office, creating a sense of united purpose and mission and ensuring effective support and collaboration. While the global directors report to the faculty director, the ED is a critical partner to and strategist with the nine global directors in defining and facilitating their local programs and aims with high academic standards and operational excellence.
In this role you will:

Given the global nature of the work, nurture and exemplify an organizational ethos that embraces and values cultural humility. Lead the development and implementation of solutions for high-level operational and management issues, both locally and abroad, navigating the boundaries between foreign cultures and legal environments while maintaining the integrity of Stanford administrative policy and U.S. law. Build and enhance relationships with academic departments to ensure BOSP’s programs remain relevant and in support of learning outcomes for majors. Foster connections between global directors and campus partners, faculty, and departments. Collaborate with VPUE’s Director of External Relations and colleagues from the Office of Development to promote the visibility of BOSP to its 30,000+ alumni, identify gift opportunities consistent with programmatic needs, and ensure appropriate acknowledgement and stewardship of gifts. Along with development colleagues and the faculty director, plan semi-annual BOSP Advisory Council meetings and communications. In collaboration with human resources, advise and guide managers and global directors in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs, under the constraints of foreign law and local customs when applicable. Oversee regular program assessments of ongoing programs for purposes of strategic planning and program improvement, including but not limited to Faculty Senate mandated reports and studies. Collaborate with the faculty director to develop selection criteria for new programs and alternative program models, including faculty and student support mechanisms and business models. Advise VPUE senior management on programmatic and policy development related to global education. May provide input to university leadership on institutional academic and administrative policies and guidelines. In collaboration with campus and global partners, oversee the response and communication strategy to any international incident that may pose a threat to the health, safety, or well-being of Stanford students, faculty, or staff who are participating in BOSP programs.
