JOB SUMMARY:  The Director of International and Cultural Education (CICE) reports to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion and is responsible for providing innovative leadership in developing and managing a wide range of dynamic study away (or) off-campus study and exchange programs.

Employment Type: Full-time (.96 FTE/11.5 months), Benefits-Eligible, Exempt (Salaried)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Facilitate the planning for new off-campus programs and continue to assess the validity of existing programs, including collaboration with the Provost’s Office. Develop and implement methods for active promotion of off-campus study both on campus and off campus, continuing efforts to increase access to these opportunities. Continue and expand efforts to attract and support multicultural students on off-campus programs. Represent the CICE and successfully lead study-away opportunities for new student Signature Experiences. Work with faculty to develop, plan, and implement faculty-led programming, plus initiatives to integrate global and cultural perspectives on the Gustavus campus. Recommend to the Provost the appointment of faculty as program leaders and advisors and work with them on the promotion and preparation of off-campus study programs. Maintain the CICE operating budget. Supervise the staff of the CICE in:
    • Determining program fees for all programs. Preparing annual budget requests for international and off-campus study. The support and evaluation of all international and off-campus programs in cooperation with faculty, program advisors, field supervisors, and relevant faculty members and committees. Coordinating international and off-campus arrangements including bidding and booking transportation and accommodation, visa procurement and other logistical arrangements, correspondence with institutions and individuals at host sites. Coordinating on-campus arrangements, including: advising, informational meetings, application and selection process, orientation and re-entry, publications, assessment of programs, communication with off-campus students, faculty and parents, and transfer of grades and credits. Providing academic support to domestic and international multilingual students. Coordination of logistics including recruitment, applications, orientation, and on-campus support for International Students and Scholars. Student Employment oversight.
  • Negotiate and maintain agreements with institutions of higher education on behalf of the College.
  • Develop and implement long-range/strategic plans for off-campus programs in consultation with the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, the Provost’s Office, and the staff of the CICE.  Coordinate health, safety and liability issues in collaboration with Gustavus Health Service, Gustavus Counseling Center, and the campus Risk Manager. This position also convenes the Gustavus Travel Safety Committee. Serve on the Equity and Inclusion Division leadership team and advise the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, especially on issues relevant to international and multilingual students. Serve as liaison between the CICE and Administrative offices of the College Assist whenever possible with Gustavus Office of Admissions. Annually review job performance for staff in the CICE. Serve as ex-officio member of campus committees, including the Global Engagement Committee, Curriculum Committee, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Advise or serve on other college committees as requested. Be active in professional off-campus study organizations. Maintain working familiarity with all aspects of the office and programs of the CICE.

Prerequisites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience  Experience with Terra Dotta Understanding of SEVIS Experience supervising staff and managing a budget

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master’s Degree Experience in Higher Education, specifically International Education  Priority given to candidates who have served as a PDSO/DSO or RO/ARO
