Director of Student Services for Danvers Public Schools Reports To: Superintendent of Schools Supervises: Special Education and Student Services Staff Job Description: The professional duties of the Director of Student Services are outlined, but not limited to, the following job description. Primary Performance Outcomes: Guide Pre K-12 Program Development Work with staff to develop, coordinate, and update course outcomes Assist staff in assessing classroom application of course outcomes Monitor alignment with strategic plan and the frameworks of curriculum, instruction and assessment Involve community and parents in Pre K-12 programs Conduct and attend informational meetings Contribute and disseminate newsletters Present at school committee meetings Promote public programs specific to curriculum areas Develop Tools to Assess Student Learning Provide professional development on assessment Create with staff tools to assess outcomes Share strategies for classroom assessment Evaluate student achievement through the examination of student work, frameworks and statewide assessment Develop Budgets Conduct needs assessment and analysis of staff needs Manage grant expenditures Arrange for contracted services Informs the Superintendent on budget related matters Seeks grant opportunities and apply for them Assists in the principals' selection, orientation, and placement of all Student and Special Education staff. Conduct and Facilitate System-Wide Professional Development Facilitate curriculum meetings, workshops/courses by directors, study groups Provide opportunities for leadership Support teachers to participate in outside professional development Increase Capacity for Meaningful Communication, about Teaching, Learning and Assessment Update teachers on educational research Engage in frequent two-way communication with teachers, support staff, parents, students, community, clientele specific to directors Assist in scheduling, calendar development Communicate effectively orally and in writing Encourage process of connections Serve as Resource Network Provide academic, behavioral and social support/resources to district Disseminate information and keep staff updated Coordinate material distribution Conducts system-wide meetings of special education staff as needed Support Self-Directed Change Perform evaluation/supervision process Provide information on change Visit classrooms to maintain a continual dialogue on the instructional process Integration of technology into respective disciplines Coordinate the duties of the administrative assistants/aides for the department Secondary Performance Outcomes: Serves as the school administrator of special education under regulations 603CMR Section 18.00 sub. 2 (Program and Safety Standards for Approved Public or Private Day and Residential Special Education Programs.) Serves as 504 Coordinator, Title IX/Chapter 622 Coordinator and the ELL liaison. Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the overall program for Student Services to ensure compliance with district goals and state and federal standards. Ensures that the needs of students are addressed and that the district's Curriculum Accommodation Plan reflects the needs for all learners. Plan, direct and coordinate the delivery of special education in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Monitor the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans. Direct the placement of students with special needs in appropriate educational programs in accordance with accepted Individual Educational Plans. Provide the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Finance Manager with regular updates on the changing variables in the budget. Assist in preparing, administering, and monitoring the Special Education budget, using the current Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) funding criteria including the development, submission, implementation, and monitoring of state, federal, and private grants that reflect the district's needs and goals. Supervise and evaluate Special Education personnel, including teachers, related service providers, Coordinators, and School Psychologists. Implement staff development programs designed to promote growth and ensure compliance with changing regulations. Works with general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, and consulting staff to develop collaborative and inclusive programs that serve all children. Coordinates the Program Review process. Attend and participate in meetings of the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, as needed. Participate in appropriate meetings with the North Shore Education Consortium. Attends school committee and subcommittee meetings and prepares necessary reports as requested by the school committee or the Superintendent. Performs other related tasks assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
