School/College/Division Description
The mission of the Student Association at UWM (https://uwm.edu/studentassociation/) is to enrich the student experience at UWM , through representation, advocacy, and the funding of services and activities that improve student life. The Student Association Professional Staff ( SAPS ) advise and support UWM's student representatives as they advocate for the student body through campus projects and initiatives, meetings with campus and system administration, and the allocation of student fees.
Job Summary
The Director of SAPS develops, plans, and directs the Student Association Professional Staff office and its programs, including strategic planning, recruiting and training Student Association members. This position supervises and leads the SAPS staff and advises student-focused student governance. The Director provides strategic direction in the development of internal partnerships in support of program events and engages students related to advising and advocacy.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of post-graduate professional experience directly related to the job functions
- Previous professional experience supervising direct report staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and foster mutually beneficial working relationships with diverse constituencies, including but not limited to students, faculty, staff, campus leadership, and external entities
- Previous experience interpreting, implementing, and communicating institutional policies, rules, and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to coach students through ethical decision-making processes and appropriate use of student resources
- Previous experience working with or advising student government
- Experience creating and delivering culturally competent leadership development and/or extra-curricular training programs
- Demonstrated understanding of current issues impacting a university student population, and trends in higher education
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and/or financial planning involving
- Demonstrated experience developing and leveraging an assessment process as a tool for making informed decisions around program direction and the best use of resources
Target Salary Range $57,000 - $61,000
