General Function:
Responsible for providing effective change management and strategic, equity-minded leadership to administer the College services that support the student in the clarification and healthy attainment of their educational/life goals and for academic initiatives related to student success, including holistic, tiered advising, retention, and interdisciplinary programs. Provides leadership in maintaining a student-centered, retention-based, and inclusive campus climate that blends the classroom and out-of-classroom experience for a diverse student body. The position will serve as a thought leader and strategic planner to foster and promote student learning, engagement, and success through supervision of counseling, student health and wellness, access and disability services, student orientation and engagement, academic advising, athletics and recreation, Veterans Affairs, student conduct, and overall programming to promote the growth and development of all students.
The Associate Provost is responsible for assuring quality delivery of services and programs through supervision of the Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary Programs, and the Director of Access and Disability Services as well as the creation of appropriate operating procedures, division strategic plan, administration of budgetary matters, and implementing outcome based annual performance reviews. This senior-level position works collaboratively with other members of the provost's leadership teams to foster a climate focused on student success and inclusion, eliminate equity gaps, and uses data to inform decisions in alignment with the College's mission, vision, core values, strategic plan and goals.
Characteristic Duties:
Plans, organizes and administers the services, programs and courses provided by Student Affairs.
Provides an effective two-way channel of communication between the administration and the faculty and staff.
Articulates and interprets administrative decisions and college policies.
Makes recommendations to the Provost regarding programs, services and/or procedures which will aid in developing a more favorable climate for student growth, engagement, and development.
Provides leadership in determining student needs and collaborates with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders, including Information Technology, to inform, develop, implement, and evaluate student-centered programs and services, retention-based programs, and student success strategies for new and continuing students.
Implements regular research across the area of responsibility and collects and uses data to ascertain demonstrable outcomes and continuous improvement for programs and services.
Implements and promotes programs and services specifically designed to attract and retain a diverse student body.
Supports programs designed to assist new and continuing students at risk.
Actively integrates student development theory into programs, procedures, and services to enhance the student experience.
Participates actively on institutional committees and councils, and assumes other duties as delegated or assigned by the Provost.
Serves on and represents Student Affairs at the President's Learning Council, Operations Council, and other College meetings and shared governance committees.
Maintains a visible profile with campus constituencies, partners collaboratively to enhance communication on and off campus, anticipates and plans for emerging issues.
Oversees Areas of Interest to promote the You Matter, We Care SOAR (search, onboard, advance, realize) student success framework.
Supervises all experiential learning-based programs, including Honors, Phi Theta Kappa, Study Abroad, International Education, and Social Justice Studies. Provides oversight for Start Smart/First Year Experience and Learning Communities.
Develops and recommends an operating budget for the areas of responsibility and is responsible for the control of the adopted budget for the current fiscal year.
Actively pursues alternative funding through grants and foundation sources. Assesses staffing needs and makes recommendations to the Provost.
Develops, implements and oversees procedures for the request, purchase and maintenance of supplies, furniture and equipment.
Provides leadership to the staff and faculty in the divisions to promote student growth, success, and retention and to reduce equity gaps.
Supervises, evaluates, and develops a student-centered team in cutting-edge practices promoting excellence and success. Foster growth, development, and advancement of direct reports and other employees in Student Affairs.
Supervision:
Reports directly to the Provost and performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Provost or designee.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Non-traditional hours may be required.
Equipment/Tools Used:
Utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, in order to perform the duties of the job.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Education: Doctorate from an accredited institution, with a preferred emphasis on student success, student personnel, counseling or the equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student development or student affairs with a proven record of success is required. Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
