About Rocky Mountain Prep

Rocky Mountain Prep is a growing network of innovative public charter schools serving students and families in the Greater Denver Area. Rocky Mountain Prep (RMP) opened its first school in 2012 with 130 students and has grown to twelve schools, working with over 5,000 scholars in PreK through 12th grade across two districts.   • Each member of the organization plays a part in achieving these goals. School-based staff members will work towards 2 or 3 metrics that are aligned to both their individual roles AND the Big 5. These metrics vary by position and are subject to change for the 2022-2023 school year. As a (Role Title), you will be held accountable for some of these goals.

    Role Mission

    The Director of Exceptional Student Services: Mental Health (DESS-MH) - supports the mental health team made up of school social workers (SW) and school psychologists (SP). The DESS-MH will ensure the mental health team has the tools, resources, and support they need to execute legally defensible trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health services at all campuses throughout the network. The DSS-MH will oversee and ensure the quality implementation of Rocky Mountain Prep’s mental health programming, including clarity of vision, robust training, and ongoing support and development of student services related to mental health and social/emotional learning. The DESS-MH will advocate for students’ social and emotional well-being and school psychologists’ and school social workers’ roles and responsibilities while keeping accountability as the guiding principle of the job.

    In this role, you will...

    VISION AND IMPLEMENTATION
    • Ensure that Rocky Mountain Prep mental health supports, services, and programming are in compliance and align with district, state, and federal requirements
    • Provide management with direct coaching and development to School Social Workers (SW) and School Psychologists (SP), including mid-year and end-of-year coaching conversations for the MHT members network-wide
    • Provide accountability measures to SWs and SPs.
    • Oversee and ensure the quality and implementation of Rocky Mountain Prep’s mental health programming, including clarity of vision, robust training, and ongoing communication, guidance, and support
    • Support Section 504 compliance and best practices across all of our schools as needed
    • Vet programs/curriculum/resources to support the strategic plan and comprehensive systems of mental and behavioral health.

    COLLABORATION & CONSULTATION
    • Collaborate closely with the Managing Director of Culture and Director of SpEd regarding: Compliance & Accountability for developing gold-standard IEP(s) specific to social/emotional learning and the functional behavioral assessment (FBA) process
    • Ensure a unified mental health team and range of mental health services are provided across a Multi-Tiered System of Supports
    • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders in the network support office and on campuses to ensure the resources, talent, knowledge, and skills exist to support strong implementation of the mental health vision on campuses, most importantly Exceptional Student Services and Schools Team
    • Collaborate with community and district based stakeholders and partners to support a strong mental health vision and program across all of our campuses and ensure integration of best practices in the field
    • Provide quality consultation on student cases, crisis events, district advocacy, and campus programming
    • Act as the direct liaison with the Department of Social Work and Psychological Services at DPS/APS

    TEAM SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
    • In partnership with the People Experience team, support the development of job descriptions, multi-step interviews, and hiring decisions, propose staffing structure and annual assignments, ensure CDE SSP licensure, and support disciplinary and termination processes
    • Design and lead relevant and comprehensive professional development and training programs in the summer and throughout the school year for network mental health team, teachers, and school and network leaders
    • Provide regular supervision and support to each campus, including psychologists and school social workers, that is individualized and responsive to the needs of each context
    • Manage School Psychologists’ and Social workers’ roles and responsibilities, assignment and scheduling, and coaching and development
    • Train and support school psychologists and school social workers in their role in assessments, report writing, presentation of results, and service delivery as special service providers
    • Support the growth and development of school psychologists and school social workers through direct collaboration, input on evaluations, and facilitation of feedback sessions
    • Provide consultation on campus and student issues, as needed, and specifically aligned to DHS reporting, student and school safety, manifestation determinations, and staff changes and personnel support
    • Be part of PLCs as needed per school and central needs
    • Disseminate information to MH team and other stakeholders curated from DPS monthly MH meeting participation and newsletters from the Office of Suicide Prevention, School Safety Resources Center, ESS, and any other relevant agencies/sources (including best practices/research related to the field of MH)
    • Oversee coordination of SSW/SP interns as applicable

    SCHOOL & STUDENT SAFETY & CRISIS RESPONSE (E.g., prevention, intervention, postvention)
    • Support and train school social workers and school psychologists in their role in preventative and responsive crisis services, including oversight of safety processes (E.g., NSSI, SRR, PIG/TA, and ISMP)
    • Oversight and accountability of suicide prevention programming
    • Oversight of implementation of BESS universal screening processes and network-level data review/interpretation. Consultation/coaching on using BESS outcomes to help individual students have their behavioral/mental health needs addressed
    • Work with the Managing Director of Network Compliance to respond to any crisis scenarios as needed

    OTHER DUTIES
    • Be an active team member of the People and Business Administration and Legal Affairs teams, including carrying out the vision that “Every Human Thrives”

    • Carry out network support duties and responsibilities at the campus level as assigned

    Qualifications

    Required:
    • Must hold a current Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Service Provider (SSP) Professional Licensure
    • At least five years experience as a School Psychologist or School Social Worker
    • Demonstrate ability to lead, manage, and inspire other adults (E.g., tangible examples of leadership within the educational setting)
    • A proven track record of success in managing complex tasks and situations with staff, students, and families
    • Demonstrate ability to create a positive work environment and tenacity/persistence in pursuit of solutions that maximize student access and achievement
    • Strong understanding of social and emotional expertise and interventions
    • Ability to facilitate group meetings with intentionality, focus, and clear objectives
    • Inspires staff and others to believe in and reflect RMP’s mission, values, and high expectations
    • Expertise in special education compliance in the state of Colorado
    • Demonstrated success working with students from historically marginalized communities
    • Unwavering commitment to ensuring Rocky Mountain Prep is an actively anti-racist and anti-oppressive organization

    Preferred:
    • Is an LCSW or holds a PhD/PsyD
    • Speaks Spanish

    Salary

    This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a salary range of $85,000 to $120,000
