Note: All positions with Santa Fe Public Schools require a post-offer/pre-employment background check. Some positions have additional requirements as established by federal or state rules and regulations.
General Function:
Provide physical therapy to eligible students with disabilities in the schools.
Education/Training/Experience
(Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.)
Minimum: Master's degree in Physical Therapy. Licensure from the New Mexico physical therapy licensing board. New Mexico Public Education Department Physical Therapist license.
Preferred: Five years or more of relevant experience. Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of state and federal special education requirements. Skills and knowledge held by professionally trained physical therapists.
Essential Job Functions
Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Salary Range:
Ancillary pay table based on verified years of experience and education
Level 2 Teacher: $60,000
?Level 3 Teacher: $70,000
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):
School settings, adaptive devices, therapeutic materials, computer, and vehicle. A wide variety of materials and resources including electronic/digital equipment.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Continuous speaking, hearing, and visual effort. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, and reaching. Occasional climbing, kneeling, and transporting up to 50 lbs. High degree of concentration requiring continuous and often intense mental and visual attention. Numerous irregularities, complicated and complex tasks are involved. May be required to work with students and /or equipment related to hygiene or therapy purposes.
Environmental Conditions:
Duties performed in typical school settings that may include offices, music room, classrooms, gym, and auditorium. Most work is performed indoors. Travel from location to location may be necessary. Environment may be hectic with frequent interruptions and noise. May be exposed to bodily fluids.

- Provides assessment, consultation, and therapy to identify, prevent, or compensate for significant motor deficits resulting from physical disabilities or health impairments.
- Provides services required to assist a student with a disability to benefit from special education.
- Assists in the identification, adaptation, and adjustment of equipment.
- Maintains professional development by participating in district-wide, outside-of-district, and site-based training opportunities.
- Seeks technical assistance and consultation as needed from colleagues, site-based administrators, and contact teacher, program support specialists, and the Special Education Department.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
