Title Assistant Principal HS, Student Services Department High School Reports to: HS Building Principal Supervises: Certified Staff within student services department

Non-certified staff within student services department Overall Description The position of Assistant Principal for Student Services[1] was established to support the building principal in leading the implementation of comprehensive school counseling, special education/504, and social-emotional services all students. Leadership includes the development and support of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning in all 3 key areas. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and supporting school-wide goals, projects, and instructional improvement efforts;
  • Assist the principal in directing and coordinating the school Improvement process;
  • Supervise student behavior at athletic contests, dances, plays, and other student activities as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior.
  • Demonstrate values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to higher levels of performance.
  • Lead and coordinate 9-12 counseling services including all functions of college and career center;
  • Lead and coordinate professional learning for all student services staff;
  • Provide leadership for the high school course selection process for all students
  • Coordinate the structures and procedures for Student Services Professional Learning Communities and Instructional Support Team meetings
  • Supervise and/or evaluate certified and non-certified staff within the student services department;
  • Provide leadership and oversight of Student Services budget; including recommendations for staffing;
  • Lead crisis/tragic event planning, coordination, and response
  • Plan supports and resources for students in conjunction with IC of Academic Support
  • Participate in Building Leadership Team meetings, building Administrative Team meetings, and District Leadership Team meetings and committee meetings as needed
  • Supervise the maintenance of student records (transcripts, test scores, cum files)
  • Supervise enrollment process for new and transfer students
  • Co- Supervise the Testing Coordinator (non-certified position) with Assistant Principal of Curriculum for overall responsibility of all school-wide and college admission testing, including ASVAB
  • Provide leadership and oversight for applying for accommodations for standardized assessments for students with disabilities;
  • Provide leadership in the delivery of parent education programs and orientation programs for incoming freshman and new students
  • Lead and coordinate services for students with disabilities under ADA, 504 and IDEA laws and regulations;
  • Articulate, align, and apply key concepts of IDEA/Section 504 rules and regulations to ensure all students are receiving FAPE;
  • Serve as a liaison between district student services leadership and building student services teams;
  • Support and guide IEP/504 teams in managing complex legal issues, and parent concerns, including those with advocates and attorneys;
  • Coordinate and communicate with District Student Services Leadership to implement curriculum, instructional change, resource management, and programming for students;
  • Lead, coordinate, and communicate all policy and procedural changes related to counseling, 504 and special education in order to ensure alignment with district policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the coordination of students who are served in OOD placements and/or ALOP services .
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement
  • High School leadership experience preferred
  • Earned Master's Degree
  • Successful experience in student services (counseling, related services, or special education)
  • Leadership experience in the areas of counseling and/or special education.

  • 260-day position;
  • Salary/benefits determined by the Board of Education. Starting Salary - $114,000 annually or higher commensurate with equivalent work experience
  • Performance evaluated annually in accordance with the District administrative performance evaluation process.

[1] Student Services is defined as all services provided to students by counselors, social workers, psychologists, and special education students. Services include 504, IDEA, homebound instruction, and support the social-emotional well-being of students.
