Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of International Education is responsible for fostering an organizational culture and climate that fully supports global education and welcomes diversity. This will be achieved through coordination of the University's International Education efforts including the development of international program offerings; overseeing study abroad and exchange programs; leading international recruitment efforts; supporting international students who choose to study at the Millikin University through the development, implementation, and assessment of onboarding, retention, success, and completion efforts. The Dean provides strategic leadership for International Education, including formulating and implementing a vision for International Education and campus internationalization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises their team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff members, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff members; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to succeed in a result driven professional organization. Ability to manage results through a staff of direct and indirect employees. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to drive a team in a focused direction. Working knowledge of higher education processes and practices. Professional performance and results working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated proficiency with computers, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Customer, budget, quality, and delivery conscious mindset. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and facilitate teamwork. Highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask in order to meet deadlines and keep projects under budget.

Technical: The successful candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the marketplace, an understanding of current admission and marketing trends, and the ability and energy to lead a team to meet international education goals. Expertise in managing a recruitment effort that shapes a student body from a wide variety of educational backgrounds (traditional, home-schooled, private schools, supported-learning, non-traditional, community college transfers, etc.) is key. A working knowledge of international recruitment strategy is important to support and bolster Millikin's University current international study population.

SAFETY Understands and always uses safe practices. Reports all unsafe conditions to the Risk Manager immediately. Assures all equipment functions properly before use. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide strategic leadership and coordinate strategic planning for international education in alignment with the university's strategic goals.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies related to international education.
- Develop and implement strategies for recruitment and retention of international students.
- Manage the budgets for international student support, international student recruitment, and study abroad.
- Develop, assess, and report on the effectiveness of international student recruitment, orientation, advising, and retention activities.
- Develop synergies between all areas of the University where international education services are provided, and identify other international service opportunities that would fall within the Center's mission.
- Work with appropriate College departments to implement policies, procedures and support systems that effectuate the management of international education programs, students and initiatives.
- Work closely with the Provost, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Director of Grants on grants and proposals to foundations and donors to support international student education.
- Nurture fundraising opportunities to support scholarships for international students and study abroad participants.
- Coordinate the work of the International Programs and Policies Committee, collaborating with faculty and staff to coordinate international programs and policies.
- Support maintenance and development of international partnerships that create opportunities for students and faculty involvement in international education.
- Engage internal and external communities and university stakeholders to advise and provide opportunities in international education.
- Maintain awareness of the international education field. Provide direction and guidance on remaining competitive.
- Lead initiatives to increase inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and sense of belonging for students, faculty, and staff engaged with international education.
- Recruits, hires, trains, mentors, and evaluates a diverse, talented, and student-oriented staff and student workers. Maintains a highly engaged relationship with staff and students and remains visible throughout the campus community.
- Responsible for implementing emergency communication plans and protocols and provides direction, oversight, guidance, and support as needed in emergency or crisis situations.
- Actively seeks opportunities for ongoing professional development for self and staff.
- Effectively communicates university and department goals, achievements, challenges, solutions, practices, changes, and consistently enforces all policies and regulations.
- Maintains high ethical standards and integrity. Conducts all operations in a professional and business-like manner.
- Promotes positive employee relations. Consults with, and take directions from the Provost and Human Resources, regarding specific employee challenges, policies, discipline and other initiatives or issues, etc. Encourages active involvement in problem solving and use focused coaching techniques to achieve optimum performance and behavior/conduct.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with progressive leadership experience with International Education and/or a master's degree.
- Experience in international student recruitment (international travel), admissions, and administration.
- Experience as Principal Designated School Official and knowledge of USCIS regulations.
- Ability to interpret foreign student credentials.
- Sensitivity to and acceptance of personal and cultural differences in people.
- Ability to relate to students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of USCIS, DHS, and DOS regulations.
- Prior CRM experience with a proven record of developing and executing successful student-centric strategies.
- Experience working with college faculty on program or curriculum development.
- Demonstrated professional involvement in the field of international education (board memberships, presentations or involvement at conferences like NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, AIEA, CCID, etc.)
- Successful completion of NAFSA learning and training programs
