Job Summary
Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking a Dean of Student Affairs to provide engaged leadership and management of Student Affairs division including Recruitment, Admissions, Records, Financial Aid, Advising, Disability Services and Student Activities as well as related grants such as Ready to Work and Work and Learn Programs. Will be responsible for interpreting, developing, and enforcing policies and procedures for registration and records. Hears student complaints and works to resolve conflicts; serves as Title IX officer for students.
This is a defined-term contract position renewable each fiscal year and located in Prestonsburg, KY.
Job Duties:
Provides oversight of the Student Affairs Division including recruitment, admissions, advising, disabilities services, records, financial aid, veteran's services; recruitment, hiring, orientation, mentoring, professional development, evaluation of personnel supporting Student Affairs. Facilitates innovative, effective, and efficient processes and procedures that foster student learning and success. Works with faculty and staff to effect positive communication and working relationships that enhance student onboarding, retention and graduation. Oversee enrollment and advising processes, grade processing, evaluation of transfer credit, course substitutions, and accuracy and security of student academic records. Interpret, develop, and enforce graduation requirements. Develop and manage budget for the area. Collaborative leadership with the Provost: planning, implementation and evaluation of the enrollment, recruitment and student support services; oversight and maintenance of all accreditation standards pertaining to Student Services to ensure full compliance at all times.
Provides direction and leadership supporting the College's guided pathways model for strategic enrollment management: development and implementation of a sophisticated strategic enrollment management plan to establish growth areas, enrollment targets, increased funding opportunities and specific strategies and enrolls a high-quality, diverse student body to meet institutional goals and performance funding benchmarks; development of an enrollment management program built upon qualitative and quantitative analysis, strategic decision-making, and an ethos of continuous improvement, while fostering a culture that emphasizes strong personal relationships, a high-touch, "white glove" guided pathways approach, communication and transparency, entrepreneurism, flexibility, and collaboration.
Supervision of staff: assign and delegate tasks; provide direction; resolve work issues; communicate job expectations; train, mentor and coach employees; develop professional growth opportunities; resolve performance issues and administer corrective action as needed; ensure employee compliance with college policy, administrative rules, procedures, state and federal regulations and laws. Assist students individually on issues related to admissions, financial aid, academic or student code of conduct violations. Provide assistance to student organizations.
Leads relevant committees/work groups and professional development activities; convenes meetings for selective admissions advisories; support College's Early College programs and Dual Credit efforts; participate in college committees, KCTCS committees and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree and three (3) years position related experience in the areas Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Education Administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree and five (5) years position related experience in the areas Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Education Administration.
Additional Skills Requested:
Structurally, Big Sandy Community and Technical College utilizes the Provost model. This position works in a team-centered environment and works collaboratively with the Provost to plan/design and implement projects and changes in practices/policies. Secondary functions of this position include attending system-wide meetings and other professional meetings as necessary to remain current with new trends and developments in student affairs; and assisting the Provost and other administrators in completing reports and projecting the future growth of the college.
It is a fast-paced, multi-faceted position requiring adaptability to changing external and internal policies affecting the students and the institution.
