Missouri University of Science and Technology, a leading STEM-focused public research university, seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to coordinate the university’s international initiatives. The Senior Director will play a pivotal role in aligning campus services and resources to enhance support for a vibrant community of international students and scholars and will serve as the university’s Senior Internationalization Officer (SIO). As part of these efforts, the incumbent is expected to form close working relationships with Graduate and International Admissions, International Student and Scholar Services, Student Diversity Initiatives, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Human Resources, and other key collaborators. The Senior Director will also guide the university’s efforts to expand and maintain Missouri S&T’s international partnership agreements. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Senior Director will have campus-wide influence and guide efforts to further position Missouri S&T as a global leader in research, teaching, and innovation.

Rolla is approximately 1.5 hours away from numerous urban amenities in the St. Louis area, including world-class museums, shopping, sporting events and other cultural attractions.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Senior Director of International Initiatives will serve as a leading subject matter expert on globalization at Missouri S&T and will have initial funding to hire one full-time staff member (e.g., a program coordinator) to help scale their efforts. As a result of the Senor Director’s work, the university will move toward a more cohesive, coordinated, and effective support infrastructure for campus internationalization. This scope of work may include - but is not limited to - the following roles and responsibilities:
- Establish a cohesive plan and accompanying goals for campus internationalization that align with Missouri S&T’s larger strategic plan and the university’s North Star Goals.
- Coordinate programs, services, and resources provided by units across campus to increase internationalization and intercultural understanding, including services to orient international students upon arrival to the United States.
- Lead key assessment activities (e.g., surveys, focus groups, program assessments) to determine effectiveness of existing services and areas of need for additional programs/services/resources related to campus internationalization.
- Manage a master calendar of relevant events, ensuring that these are adequate and proposing further programs or events as needed.
- Create and maintain a one-stop website to collate all resources relevant to international students/scholars and intercultural issues.
- Manage the tracking process that all students, faculty, and staff follow when traveling internationally to promote safety and security of university employees, students, and assets.
- Establish, manage, and assess all agreements and memoranda of understanding with international universities and other relevant organizations, including the formulation of criteria for creating and continuing such agreements and serving as a liaison to relevant agencies, consulates, and embassies.
- Develop and provide guidance to the campus community on proper international protocols for international delegation visits to and from the campus.
- Serve as a leading advocate for international students/scholars and non-student international visitors, working closely with the Office of Human Resources, the University of Missouri System, and other key service providers or policy stakeholders to enhance access and support for the international community.
Desired Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired. Ideal candidates will possess a master’s degree or higher and 10 years of experience related to internationalization in higher education, or an equivalent combination of skills/experience. Additional qualifications include:
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures through knowledge and appreciation of cultural differences; prior experience living or working in international settings is desirable. Significant subject matter expertise in one or more areas relevant to this position such as international student recruitment and programming, international student/scholar services, international partnership agreements, and other strategic campus internationalization projects. Demonstrated program administration experience in areas such as international student/scholar services, international partnerships, or related areas of international affairs in higher education. Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and work effectively across organizational boundaries, aligning programs/services/resources to maximize impact. Willingness and ability to conduct periodic international travel on behalf of the university Supervisory experience is desirable but may not be required for candidates who otherwise meet the above criteria.
This position is located at Missouri S&T’s campus in Rolla, Missouri and regular in-person work is required. However, a hybrid work schedule may be negotiated for competitive applicants.

Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position has been established at $90,000 - $110,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the individual's combination of education, skills, and experience relevant to the role.
