Job Description:
Ohio University's Center for International Studies (https://www.ohio.edu/cis) is seeking applicants for the Frances M. and Stephen H. Fuller Visiting Professorship in Southeast Asian Studies. The successful candidate must hold the rank of a tenured Professor or Associate Professor (or equivalent at their home institution) with a record of scholarship that has contributed significantly to advancing the understanding and appreciation of Southeast Asia and its peoples.
Ideally, the visiting professorship would span a full academic year (August 2024 to May 2025), but a one-semester appointment could be negotiated. The visiting professor will be expected to teach one course per semester. In addition, we envision the scholar mentoring graduate students and delivering a research presentation for the university community. The ideal candidate would bring energy, enthusiasm, and ideas to the Southeast Asian Studies program, the Center for International Studies, and Ohio University.
With a tradition of teaching and scholarship on Southeast Asia that dates to the early 1950s, Ohio University has compiled one of the world's finest Southeast Asia library collections (https://www.ohio.edu/library/collections/international?referrer=homepage-collections-bar) . The successful candidate would enjoy full access to this collection as well as other research and teaching resources at the university.
Established in 1804, Ohio University (https://www.ohio.edu/) has a rich history, diverse campuses, international communities, and beautiful Appalachian settings. Our picturesque campus is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains amidst scenic state and national parks. Recently, Athens was rated the Best College Small Town by the readers of USA Today. Ohio University has joined the highest level of research institutions in the country by earning the R1 Classification (https://www.ohio.edu/news/2022/01/ohio-university-joins-highest-level-research-institutions-nation) in the latest Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
