Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director for Education Abroad assists the Director and Associate Director in the oversight of daily operations in the Office of Education Abroad, exchange and affiliate program student advising, new exchange and affiliate program development and implementation, updating and implementing pre-departure and re-entry orientations for students, contributing to the unit's risk management, expanding the number and diversity of students participating in study abroad opportunities, campus outreach and training.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the advising practices manager for education abroad programs, research and remain well informed about the many program opportunities available to our students, including study abroad, internship, work, and volunteer options; work closely and maintain appropriate relationships with faculty and academic advisers and collaborate with the Director of the office in developing and implementing strategic approaches to promoting and supporting exchange and affiliate partner relationships.
- Meet with academic departments and advising units to conduct annual program review and evaluation.
- Oversee planning and implementation of pre-departure orientations, re-entry and scholarship programs. Organize the bi-annual Education Abroad Fairs, the annual Photo Contest, and other promotional and informational events.
- Administer the application and registration procedures for designated exchange, affiliated, and direct enroll programs.
- Contribute to the maintenance and development of web based information and material associated with study abroad programs such as the office website, database system maintenance, and creating recruitment and advising literature for designated programs.
- Process grades and coursework records for non-faculty-led programs.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience / Education:
- Master's degree required in International Education, Higher Education, or related field.
- Minimum of one year professional experience working in a study abroad office.
- One year supervisory experience in international higher education.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience in student and academic advising.
- Must be willing to travel, work evenings, and weekends when necessary.
- Experience as a for-credit, semester or year-long study abroad participant.
- Knowledge of study abroad programs and experience managing or developing study abroad programs.
- Excellent computer skills, experience with comprehensive data management software a plus.
