We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College's staff as the new Education Abroad Advisor.

The Education Abroad Advisor position will contribute to the mission of increased meaningful, international mobility of Maryville College students. This position is responsible for study abroad recruitment and outreach, the management of portfolio of study abroad programs, preparing and advising students for an experience abroad, and responding to the needs/issues of students, parents, staff, and faculty. They will be responsible for providing advisory, referral, and information services to students, parents, faculty and staff on study, intern, community engagement and work abroad opportunities offered through Maryville College as well as assisting with program development at MC and abroad.

Your primary job duties and responsibilities would include:
  • Education Abroad Advising: The position serves as the first point of contact for programs; recruits and advises students; aides in the collection of applications and materials, ensures student registration and maintains student records; oversees scholarship applications and distribution; assists with competency building and goal setting for education abroad significant practical experiences; This position will collaborate campus-wide to identify good programmatic options for students in different majors, advising on procedures and the development of materials to facilitate the student's program selection process.
  • Pre-departure, Ongoing and Re-entry programming: assists with programming to prepare students for experiences abroad, and to articulate the value of their experiences in line with NACE career competencies upon return.
  • Communications/Marketing: Responsible for the development of a comprehensive marketing plan and materials to promote education abroad programs in print, web, email social media and other formats.
  • Acts as advisor for Study Abroad Ambassadors
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, students and parents: on-campus education about and promotion of study abroad; externally with study abroad providers, ISEP, bilateral partners, international organizations and domestic and foreign governmental offices, as needed. The Education Abroad Advisor will represent the Center for Global Engagement at fairs, campus events, and in classes.
  • Crisis Management: Act as a point of contact for emergency response protocols for education abroad students. Contribute to planning to support student health and wellbeing abroad. They will exercise discretion and independent judgment in the implementation of risk management procedures.
  • Reporting: capturing and maintaining student data; program assessment, and development of reports and presentations. Reports to the Director of International Education and works with faculty, staff, students and parents: on-campus education about and promotion of study abroad; externally with study abroad providers, ISEP, international organizations and domestic and foreign governmental offices.
  • Global Engagement Programming: This may include:
  • Evening & weekend social, cultural and event programming, promotion and publicity for events.
  • Participation in and development of campus internationalization programming, including but not limited to International Education Month, SAA events, & Study Abroad Day.
  • Collaboration with international student services.
  • Position supervises student assistants only, following all College policies regarding student workers, their hiring, assigning and directing work, assessing performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum qualifications for this job required are:

Education required to ensure success in this position:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, required. Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:
  • Prior significant intercultural experience or experience traveling, studying or working abroad.
  • Experience in or familiarity with higher education in the private, liberal arts college setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience with education abroad programs, academic advising or student services preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively with others and/or departments

Special skills, knowledge, and abilities:
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Basic knowledge of computers required.
  • Previous experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) products.
  • Capacity and willingness to learn specific software utilized by the College
  • Ability and willingness to learn office specific software applications
  • Strong competency with social media, graphic design and email marketing tools. (including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Canva, Mailchimp, Wordpress, Google Suite & Publisher)
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Self-starter with ideas, creativity and enthusiasm.
