Job Details
Responsible for mitigating health and safety risks for students traveling outside the US. Implements, manages, evaluates and updates a comprehensive travel preparedness strategy, student international travel policies and procedures. Review and approval responsibility for travel proposals and provider partners including vetting universities for exchange. Develops and recommends risk mitigation strategies for independent study and faculty-led programs. Conducts outreach to promote, advise and train about health, safety and security overseas. Designs general and specific education abroad emergency plans, oversees emergency response, trains Study Abroad Center (SAC) staff and directly manages complex emergencies. Conducts training for faculty-led program leaders and student travelers. Collaborates with counterparts at the other UC schools and supports the international risk management efforts of the campus and system. Other campus units may request advice and collaboration for international research security and global strategy.
Many operational functions of SAC are essential to risk management such as travel planning, data management, complete and timely student applications, orientation and waiver processes, reporting. Supervises two operations staff and provides overall management of internal processes of the unit. Works closely under the director to understand their vision and priorities and to direct unit operations to ensure they are accomplished effectively. Responsible for improving efficiency, productivity and ensuring high quality performance and client satisfaction. Creates work plans and manages development of SAC programs. Directly supervises operations and administrative positions within SAC. Recommends budget to director who has responsibility for financial decisions.
The position reports to the Director of Study Abroad, is part of the Study Abroad Center team, and also works closely with the Chief Global Affairs Officer for broader campus concerns. Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across study abroad and global engagement. Develops and oversees the implementation of new risk programs and processes.
