Curriculum Development and Teaching of English Language Institute (ELI) Courses For Fall 2024 Program Launch

DESCRIPTION:
The International Education Division is conducting specialized hiring for two Associate faculty to develop curriculum for a new pre-College ESL program that will begin in September 2024. The following is a list of paid commitments for this specialized faculty position which includes curriculum development and meetings:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed remotely which requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment.
WORK SCHEDULE/COMPENSATION:
Upon hire, curriculum development will be paid at the special assignment rate of $40 per hour and meetings will be paid according to the CBA stipend rate starting at $45 for meetings that are .5 hours to less than 2 hours. Salary is dependent upon contract load starting in September 2024. The rate will be $5,865 for a 5 credit lecture mode class at Step A. Faculty will be eligible for benefits on the 10th day of the second quarter of teaching (not during the curriculum development period) at a 50% full-time course load or more.

- Develop innovative professional and academic integrated skills ESL curriculum for one of two new program levels below Academic English (AENGL) 87, Language for College, identify level-appropriate integrated English language learning textbooks.
- Attend meetings prior to September working with AENGL faculty, Office of International Programs staff and administrative staff in the International Education Division.
- Teach up to 18 credits per quarter starting in Fall of 2024 through Spring of 2025.

- BA or higher in TESL; OR BA or higher in a related field plus a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language or a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language conferred prior to the start of employment.
- Experience in designing and delivering culturally, linguistically, and socially equitable curriculum and assessments for English language learners
- English language teaching experience with international students
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population in oral and written English
- Ability to work collaboratively with advisers, faculty, staff in a diverse academic environment

- You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
- Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- If you are not a US citizen or a green card holder, part of the hiring process will involve an international background check which could take between 2-4 weeks for approval.
- This position is part of a bargaining unit subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
