Job Summary:

More than 150 international students from over 50 countries study at Drake University. The International Student Coordinator serves as a valuable resource for prospective and current international students.

As a member of the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) Team, the coordinator will support international students before they arrive and during their time here on campus. The coordinator provides pre-arrival information, arrival and orientation services, immigration advice, and special programs specifically for international students.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Respond timely and thoroughly to inquiries from prospective undergraduate international students via email, virtual calls, etc.
  • Support qualified international students through the various application stages: portfolio review, admittance, deposit, and I-20 issuance.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) at the University, responsible for assisting international students entering the U.S. on a F-1 (degree-seeking) non-immigrant visa
  • Responsible for issuing initial I-20 documentation for students entering on an F-1 visa
  • Regularly lead virtual sessions with admitted students on topics ranging from financial support to visa acquisition best practices
  • Track international students from deposit status to on-campus arrival, and provide status updates to internal stakeholders (deans, registrar, etc.)
  • Serve as bridge for students as they shift from deposited student to enrolled, providing significant support for the onboarding process. Lead virtual and on-campus orientation sessions for enrolled international students.
  • Oversee the International Mentor and Academic Consultant (IMAC) program, including selection, training, and matching mentors to international students. Coordinate monthly peer mentor meetings.
  • Support international students with cultural adaptation and integration into campus and Des Moines in collaboration with the International Student and Scholar Services staff
  • Provide direct recruitment support in certain markets as deemed appropriate
  • Assist with mailing of recruitment brochures to recruitment locations as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with university students, preferably international students
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or permanent resident (in order to work in SEVIS)
  • Detail-oriented
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Effective communication written and verbal skills
  • Effective presentation skills, to both small and large audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience coordinating and delivering international student programming
  • Experience working in the SEVIS system
  • Previous experience as a DSO or ARO
  • Ability to converse in a language in addition to English
  • Experience studying or living in a country outside of the U.S.

Job Duties:

40% - Respond to prospective student inquiries, support international students through application stages, lead virtual sessions for admitted students - (Essential)

30% - Serve as a bridge for deposited students to enrollment; lead retention effort for deposited students; support student integration into campus - (Essential)

20% - DSO/I-20 issuance/keeping track of status for SEVIS process; track students from deposit to on-campus arrival; update campus stakeholders on enrollment and arrival status after deposit - (Essential)

5% - Oversee IMAC program - (Essential)

5% - Provide direct recruitment support as needed, assist with mailing of brochures and setting up visits. Perform other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)

Salary & Benefits

The final offered salary will be commensurate with the selected candidates qualifications and experiences. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) position.
