The University of Washington School of Law is seeking an experienced Assistant Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid to serve as the law school's chief admissions officer and director of financial aid. The individual in this position will lead and direct a program that will meet the school's recruitment and admission goals. This position is charged with the development of strong relationships to attract a well-qualified, diverse entering class for the UW School of Law. The Assistant Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid holds primary responsibility for recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and financial aid for the School of Law. The position reports directly to the Dean.
The successful candidate will have a passion for excellence, a commitment to building a diverse and multicultural student population, and the creativity and leadership skills to advance our admissions department to the next level of success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Admissions (50%)
- Develops and oversees administration of the Law School's recruitment and admissions strategies, including the development of a metrics system to ensure enrollment of a diverse, highly qualified student body.
- Analyzes the cost and benefits of marketing strategies, recruitment programs, and admission events with input and support by the admissions team and advisement of the Dean and Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.
- In collaboration with the marketing and communications department, develops and executes marketing strategies to support key admissions goals, including the production of relevant multi-media products (e.g., website, blogs, video).
- Represents the school and coordinates other staff representation at national and local recruitment events.
- Oversight of outreach and recruitment efforts for LLM and MJ programs.
- Provides information regarding academic programs offered and admissions policies and procedures for prospective and admitted students.
- Leads the review and evaluation of applicant files to determine the admissibility of applicants using established school admissions standards. Financial Aid (25%)
- Manages available restricted and unrestricted resources to award scholarships to attract strong candidates and support students in collaboration with development, finance, and financial aid staff.
- In coordination with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration produces predictive modeling reports and provides simulations to inform and establish, and in coordination with the Dean of the Law School, a yearly scholarship award matrix based on historical and gathered institutional and national data.
- Analyzes and communicates admission and financial aid goals and yield to relevant stakeholders, developing financial aid strategies with the Dean and the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration Leadership and Administration (20%)
- Acts as a liaison to student groups and pre-law advisors to enhance and develop programs to improve admission yield and student diversity.
- Oversees Admissions office annual operations and scholarship budget.
- Develops and oversees financial aid and scholarship administration and programming including financial aid literacy and counseling.
- Supervises Admissions staff, including hiring, performance management, training, discipline, merit, and promotion recommendations.
- Acts strategically in the application of customer relationship management (CRM) software, including performing data analytics to help implement admissions strategies.
- Implements best business practices for managing admissions data.
- Prepares weekly enrollment report for Senior Leadership.
- Communicates and implements annual recruitment strategy with admissions staff.
- Manages a departmental budget (to include oversight and approval of travel policies, recruiting travel budget and expenses).
- Collaborates with Dean and faculty in leveraging signature programs to enhance the competitive advantages of the School of Law.
- Develops new sources for identifying future students. Other (5%)
- Performs other related duties as necessary. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Master's degree in Education or Student Counseling and 4-5 years of experience in admissions recruiting OR a Juris Doctorate and 3-4 years of experience in higher education/academia.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience utilizing scholarship or other soft funds to further incentivize high caliber prospective students,
- Understanding of financial aid processes and modeling.
- Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and program development.
- Public speaking experience.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.
- Web management skills; computer literate with word processing and database programs.
- Ability and willingness to travel, including over some weekends.
- Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and professionally under the pressure of frequent deadlines in a fast-paced environment. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work collaboratively with peers on an administrative leadership team with a commitment to excellence and the law student experience. Engaged in the higher education community, the legal education literature and accreditation standards, and expertise in best practices for recruitment and retention of law students.
