Job Summary:

The International Exchange Specialist provides immigration advising and assistance for all J-1 visa holding visiting scholars and their dependents. The Specialist assists the Director with institutional compliance as related to the Exchange Visitors; including, reporting and monitoring data in the Student and Immigration Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and in Terra Dotta software. The Specialist is the point person for academic departments requesting visiting scholars and export control, in order to facilitate and streamline the processes for hosting international scholars. The Specialist provides regular information sessions for departments as well as assisting in the development of cultural programming as required by the US Department of State.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Two (2) years of professional experience working with F-1 and/or J-1 visa types

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

• Experience studying and/or living abroad
• Master’s Degree in related field
• Two (2) years of professional experience working with J-1Exchange Visitors

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working Knowledge of U.S. immigration laws and regulations
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of different cultures.
• Ability to analyze complex immigration issues involving a variety of individuals, situations, rules and external agencies and bring them to satisfactory resolution
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex information effectively.
• Demonstrated success in working and communicating effectively with individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Effective planning, organizing and effective time management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems.

Shift: Business hours, Monday through Friday

Travel: No travel required

Expected hiring range: $60,000 - $70,040

  • The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting and cannot be exceeded.
