Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Admissions is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of the admissions process for the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Medicine. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of all admission policies and procedures including efficient systems and processes that are grounded in evidence-based best practices to ensure the recruitment of a highly qualified and diverse medical student body. The Associate Dean for Admissions maintains the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, is a member of the Dean's leadership team, and collaborates with various stakeholders to create and implement a strategic admissions plan that aligns with the medical school's mission, vision, and values.

The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor commensurate with experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in medical student admissions at LCME-accredited medical school or ACGME residency program recruitment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical school leadership, e.g. residency director, clerkship director, asst/assoc dean, etc.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • MD or equivalent degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with AMCAS application processing software.
  • Proven track record of managing and implementing a successful medical school admissions program.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Knowledge of LCME accreditation and accountability standards for medical student admissions.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate procedures related to medical student admissions.
  • Ability to establish Office of Admission's goals and objectives that support the UGA School of Medicine mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, networking, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and a commitment to data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and compliance.

  • Oversee the entire admissions process for the UGA School of Medicine, from recruitment to application review and decision notification.
  • Develop, manage, and refine a holistic process of evaluating, interviewing, and selecting qualified applicants.
  • Develop and implement a strategic student recruitment and admissions plan that attracts highly qualified and diverse medical student applicants.
  • Assess market trends and conduct external benchmarking.
  • Identify ways to innovate and continuously improve and streamline the student recruitment and admissions process.
  • Analyze and interpret data for internal use to ensure Office of Admissions goals are being achieved.
  • Ensure compliance with all LCME standards regarding admissions and enrollment.
  • Provide ongoing education and programmatic support to admissions committee members and interviewers regarding school policies, accreditation standards, and institutional priorities.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of the staff in the Office of Admissions.
  • Administer office's operational budget and ensure funds are being expended appropriately.
  • Contribute to the instruction, scholarship, and service needs of the School of Medicine as appropriate.
