Under general supervision is responsible to assist international students with the successful admissions and matriculation process at Texas Southern University. Ensures that all international students maintain compliance with the rules and regulations of their F1 student visa, as mandated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Manages other department personnel.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Ensures the admission process for all international students are processed in a timely manner and all university admission requirements are met.
  • Creates, enters and routes student data to USCIS's Student and Exchange Visitors Program (SEVIS) for processing of immigration information needed for students to apply for F1 visa.
  • Conducts international orientations for all international students each term.
  • Counsel and advises students regarding rules and regulations insuring proper maintenance of student visa policies.
  • Maintains proper admissions and immigration records for prospective, current and post graduate students.
  • Conducts employment workshop for students monthly. Reviews and assists with the submission of employment documents to USCIS for all students work authorization.
  • Communicates and assists Homeland Security with investigations of students who have violated compliance of student visa rules and regulations.
  • Communicates and assists with questions and concerns various Cultural Missions have in regard to their students'.
  • Recruitment of international students (i.e., community college fairs, ESL schools, education ministries, cultural missions, alumni).
  • Provides cultural events on campus for international students. Acts as International Student Advisor for the international student organization on campus.
  • Maintains proper data through the ISSM (International Student and Scholar Management) system.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $55,513.00 - $69,392.00 Education

Bachelor's degree or higher. Master's degree preferred.

None required.

Knowledge of:
  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in multiple disciplines. Acts as the ultimate subject matter expert in several professional disciplines and is the "go-to" expert on principles, methods and procedures.
  • Requires the ability to create methods and approaches to handle unique situations. International affairs is an ever evolving industry which requires critical thinking of immigration rules and regulations.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.

Work Experience

Three (3) to five (5) years' experience working with students in a higher education environment or significant international experience.
