Under general supervision, determines the admissibility of all undergraduate and graduate international students. Reviews all international documents to determine authenticity and accreditation of institutions using a variety of research methods. Admits qualified undergraduate students and submits screening of graduate students to appropriate departments for final approval. Designs and coordinates admissions outreach services and associated events. Develops and implements international recruitment programs and related initiatives designed to attract suitable candidates in support of the university's enrollment objectives. Establishes and delivers a wide range of advisement and liaison services.
The International Admissions and Recruitment unit, under the Global Education Office (located in Mesa Vista Hall), is seeking a detail-oriented, result-focused individual to join our team. If you enjoy interacting with international students and would like to contribute to UNM's global mission, we would love to speak with you. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to required compliance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security regulations for the Designed School Official status. You must be available for local, state, and international travel, and for occasional evening and weekend work shifts during peak periods. Position Summary
- Review international admission documents to determine authenticity and accreditation of institutions using a variety of application review methods
- Admit qualified undergraduate students by competently analyzing academic records from educational systems worldwide
- Review and route graduate student applications to appropriate departments for final approval
- Generate, design and communicate reports from recruitment and international admissions data information.
- Generate non-immigrant documents for newly admitted international students through the role of Designated School Official (DSO)
- Assist with virtual and in-person recruitment outreach efforts, including periodic travel and non-standard working hours (some evenings and weekends), to attract more international applicants to the university
- Plan and host recruitment events for educational agents and academic partners
- Assist with Annual International Student Festival and other engagement events
- Communicate with potential students about UNM policies and procedures for admission
- Ensure departmental goals are met
- Serve on Global Education Office committees and University panels as needed
- Support recruitment strategies that are multi-facetted and have defined goals and measurements of success

- Knowledge of immigration regulations relating to F1 and J1 visa holders
- Previous experience issuing I-20 and DS-2019 immigration documents

- Strong understanding of New Mexico Higher Education rules
- Multi-lingual- Fluency in a language, other than English
