Position Summary:
The Coordinator, Military Student Services under direction, oversees, coordinates, and develops on and off-campus Mountain Home Air Force Base outreach, recruitment, services, and activities to attract, retain, and support students; designs and implements or conducts workshops and presentations; serves as liaison between admissions, retention, and support programs, staff, and other direct student support services; prepares written and statistical reports; and performs related duties as required. In addition, this position is charged with the tasks of assisting military families to leverage educational funding to pursue CWI credit and non-credit programs. These educational opportunities will focus on the holistic student experience, from early interest through persistence to graduation; with an overall effort to create sustainable and positive cultural shifts in the college-going and completion rates within the military and Mountain Home community.
The responsibilities of the coordinator will require effective interdepartmental collaboration and the development of strong community partnerships. Time within this position will be split between developing internal processes and activities that support student success, and external community services that attract and effectively transition new students through the college readiness and enrollment experience.
In addition, the coordinator will oversee the recruitment and outreach of the Mountain Home schools and community in the region. Furthermore, this position will occasionally also attend the Idaho Magic Valley college fairs as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Foster a CWI community at Mountain Home Air Force Base by providing Admissions information to prospective students, such as CWI presentations, application process, FAFSA support, placement exams, and 1:1 meetings
- Academically Advise students in degrees & courses that are offered at the Mountain Home Air Force Base and assist them in enrolling in courses
- Knowledge of DANTES Testing and Community College of the Air Force AAS degrees
- Knowledge of Tuition Assistance (TA) from the Air Force for Airman
- Foster a student-centered success environment for students through programming, faculty and student interaction, and community-building activities
- Build intentional and supportive relationships with an assigned student population
- Assist with the planning and implementation of Orientation, taking a lead role as it relates to consideration of best practices to support military students
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners
- Actively support and engage in a team approach to accomplishing goals
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college policies, procedures, programs, and articulation agreements with other colleges, and surrounding state/private colleges and universities
- Maintain student files and records
- Participate in college committees, staff and professional meetings, and other appropriate assignments
- Take on a leadership role in developing college student life groups that support the success and leadership development of military students
- Actively engage with local high schools and community agencies from the Mountain Home & Magic Valley area to improve institutional efforts to inform prospective students and transition new students into the college
- Work collaboratively with enrollment management and One-Stop, dual credit, advising, and other college departments to gain support for initiatives focused on increasing student success for the military population
- Lead internal efforts to create awareness of cultural norms as necessary to ensure institutional effectiveness in the overall support of our military student population
- Monitor, track, and report on data related to the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and persistence of our military student population
- Assess student needs and provide referrals to CWI, academic, and community resources.
- Keep abreast of federal and state regulations related to admission, financial aid, and course and degree completion
- Maintains expert-level knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, regulations, rules, statutes and laws
- Assists students in understanding how they are impacted by college, state, and federal procedures, regulations, rules, statutes, and laws
- Acts with integrity and upholds IACRAO, AACRAO, PNACAC guidelines and values
- Conveys by words and action the values expected by CWI
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree.
- 3 years of experience in student services or related experience.
- Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to represent the college in a positive way to diverse populations
- Strong technical abilities: database systems, presentation software, Microsoft Office suites, or equivalent
- Strong event planning/coordination skills
- Ability to interpret, follow, and administer academic and administrative policy
- Ability to function independently and work collaboratively with institutional partners
- Ability to travel between various locations throughout the day
