Overview:

EPIC de Cesar Chavez High School, part of the WASC accredited charter high school program of FIELD, is dedicated to providing adults with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma. Our unique approach caters to adults over the age of 18 through a combination of in-class and distance education. We focus on remediation, basic skill development, ESL, and credit recovery, alongside career technical education and college preparatory classes. Our students benefit from flexible scheduling and a variety of educational pathways, all free of cost.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal of Student Services will organize, coordinate, and administer programs and activities related to student discipline, attendance, and instruction. The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal with administrative duties involving student conduct, curriculum development, and school operations, and will supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist the Principal in overseeing daily school operations.
    • Manage and improve student attendance and processes.
  • Program Coordination:
    • Organize and administer educational programs, including ESL, remediation, and career
      technical education.
    • Ensure curriculum delivery aligns with California State Standards.
    • Support the implementation and modification of instructional programs in accordance with
      applicable laws and policies.
  • Staff Supervision:
    • Direct, evaluate, and supervise certificated and classified staff.
    • Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff.
    • Foster a collaborative and effective work environment.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain communication with community and parent groups.
    • Represent the school in public forums and community events.
      Coordinate with Student Service Coordinators for student enrollment and follow-up
      appointments.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee school plant operations and ensure a safe learning environment.
    • Monitor and manage student services and activities.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.


Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Comprehensive understanding of school administration, including relevant sections of the State Education Code.
  • Familiarity with modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of instructional standards and faculty requirements.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and oral presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer operation skills.

  • Organize, coordinate, and administer school programs and activities.
  • Assist in curriculum development and school operations.
  • Evaluate and supervise staff effectively.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Education Administration or related field.
  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in an adult education or high school setting.
  • Prior administrative or leadership experience is preferred.


Licenses Required:
  • Valid California Driver License.
  • Valid Serve Safe Certificate.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to travel as needed/required.
  • Up to 50% of the time.

School Setting: The role primarily operates within a school environment, which includes classrooms, offices, and meeting areas. The Assistant Principal will spend significant time interacting with students, teachers, staff, and parents.

Travel: This position may require travel between different EPIC locations and community sites. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are necessary.

Flexible Hours: Due to the nature of adult education and the flexibility needed to accommodate students schedules, the Assistant Principal may need to work evenings and weekends.

Mobility: The Assistant Principal must be able to move around the school campus frequently to observe classrooms, interact with staff and students, and attend meetings.

Lifting: Occasionally required to lift or carry office supplies, books, or other materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Bending/Stooping/Kneeling: Occasionally required to bend, stoop, or kneel to engage with students at their level or to access low storage areas.

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse, as well as other office equipment such as telephones, copiers, and printers.

Vision: Ability to read printed materials, computer screens, and other documents. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. This includes listening to others, responding appropriately, and conveying information clearly.

Stress Tolerance: Must be able to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities, sometimes simultaneously, with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines. Must be able to handle stressful situations and maintain a calm demeanor.
