Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Study Abroad Advisor is a member of the Study Abroad Office advising team. The advisor is the primary point of contact for almost all UNC Chapel Hill students who consider studying abroad; In 2022-2023, the Study Abroad Advisors served over 2000 students on abroad, domestic, and virtual programs. The Study Abroad Advisor guides and assists students at every step of the study abroad process: identifying a program, completing an application, applying for scholarships, preparing for their education abroad experience, staying safe and healthy while abroad, pursuing academic credit for their overseas study, and reflecting on the experience when they return to Chapel Hill. The Study Abroad Advisor is student-centered and contributes to diversity and excellence of the academic community at UNC . The position reports to the Director of Advising in the Study Abroad Office
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
One year of advising-related experience with a post-secondary student population is required. Cross-cultural experience, which may include studying or working abroad, is also required.

Candidates who possess the following qualifications are preferred.Proactive, creative, innovative mindsetDemonstrated success working with diverse student populationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated experience working effectively in both autonomous and interdependent team settingsProven ability to prioritize work and adapt easily to changing prioritiesExperience implementing data informed practices and contributing to assessment and strategic prioritiesSuperior critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, student-centered environmentProficiency in a modern world languageWillingness to travel internationally
