Department Summary:
Office of Undergraduate Admission supports UCLA student enrollment goals through recruitment, admission, and yield practices consistent with the mission and values of the university. We seek to recruit and enroll high-achieving, talented students from diverse backgrounds from throughout California, the US, and abroad to both benefit from and contribute to one of the leading research universities in the world.
Position Summary:
In support of Undergraduate Admission (UA) efforts to meet annual new student recruitment and enrollment goals, the Admission Officer assists in all areas of undergraduate admissions evaluation for freshman and transfer applicants. This expertise is acquired through training and experience in the position. The position serves as resource to staff in UA, including other evaluators, public relations staff and recruitment specialists, for issues and problems related to admission to the University. The Admission Officer also visits community colleges in California, and possibly a limited number of high schools, providing substantive information about UCLA specifically, and the University of California generally (as required) to prospective students and counselors related to University admissions requirements, processes and deadlines, as well as general information about scholarships and financial aid, housing and campus services. Also serves as a resource on undergraduate admissions topics to the external community, including high school counselors, representatives from other universities, and UCLA faculty, advisors and administrators. Under direction and guidance the incumbent interprets UC's complex requirements for admission and will ultimately make independent decisions regarding the acceptance of transfer coursework for domestic and foreign institutions to the University, and represents the University and UA at conferences and meetings. The incumbent may participate in interdepartmental and UC system wide meetings regarding admission to the University. The Admission Officer may be assigned a specific target population or have a specific set of duties and may specialize in that area, but will be sufficiently well-versed to work with a variety of prospective student audiences. Examples of special populations and programs include, but are not limited to: back-up liaison with UCLA campus departments or programs; assisting with two- and four-year college articulation; evaluation of international student records, and more.
Salary & Compensation:
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications:
1-3 years Related experience such as participation in student outreach activities, or other similar experience(s) may be substituted for years of job experience; or equivalent combination of education & experience (Required)
Working knowledge of UC admissions policy and campus principles related to undergraduate admission. Skill in the application and analysis of widely varying types of material. (Preferred)
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and ability to be flexible in applying guidelines in individual or unique situations. (Required)
Working knowledge of UCLA , its academic programs, opportunities and services for students, and University policies, procedures, deadlines and practices related to undergraduate admission at UCLA specifically, and the University of California more broadly. (Preferred)
Demonstrated ability to undertake a variety of activities, including but not limited to academic & admissions counseling, internal/external group presentations, & development/implementation of eff. mktg strategies, to stimulate/motivate an academically competitive, talented & diverse applicant pool. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, through electronic and virtual media, and in writing, representing the University in a professional and accurate manner on often complex topics related to student academic preparation and University admission. (Required)
Demonstrated organizational skills in setting and managing priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of position responsibilities and that facilitate the completion of institutional and unit goals and successful programmatic outcomes. (Required)
Working knowledge of the University of California in general and other post-secondary educational opportunities, particularly in California, including their academic programs and services available to students. (Preferred)
Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of a diverse prospective student population, a commitment to quality teamwork, and initiative, independence, and motivation are required. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates, college administrators and officials and representatives. (Required)
Familiarity with and ability to use technology tools to advance unit goals. (Required)
Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license for operation of university vehicles in the course of performing job duties. (Required)
Must be able to work evening hours and weekends; be willing to travel within U.S. and abroad as required. (Required)

Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of related job experience (Required)
