Under the direction of a member of the Undergraduate Admission Senior Team (Associate Director or Director), the successful Admission Counselor recruits and works to enroll qualified students for admission to the school in accordance with all applicable internal and external policies and regulations.
Up to 6-8 weeks of domestic travel in the fall and 2-4 weeks in the spring will be required. This includes occasional evening and weekend commitment especially during specific times of the year between September and May.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Explains educational programs, student outcomes, campus services, and financial considerations to students, parents, and educators
2. Serve as a member of one of the designated Undergraduate Admission teams (recruitment, selection, events, transfer...)
3. Makes prompt and effective contact with prospective and admitted candidates through returned phone calls and emails
4. Secures personally developed inquiries by obtaining the contact information of those that may be interested in programs offered via off-campus events and campus visits
5. General office duties, which include rotating with other counselors in serving as “Admission Officer of the Day” (meet with walk-in visitors, set up Visit Center, and give presentations to guests)
6. Participates in off-campus events to move prospective students through the pipeline (including high school/community college visits, college fairs, and yield events)
7. Evaluate undergraduate applications for admission based on the University’s recruiting goals and standards
8. Counsel important stakeholders: parents, applicants, and school counselors regarding the University of Miami’s admission policies and procedures
9. Attend on-campus admission events (open houses, admitted student events...)
10. Appropriately utilizes Slate (Technolutions) and PowerFaids platforms
11. Possess a valid driver’s license and ability (as well as willingness) to drive when necessary
The Admission Counselor must possess excellent presentation, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills. The person must have the ability to work independently, as well as with teams of colleagues, and possess the aptitude for detail-oriented tasks. The Admission Counselor must also possess strong time management skills, a sense of humor, and can prioritize and balance responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
Experience:
Entry-level position with 1 year of post-collegiate professional experience preferred. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including giving presentations
• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, both internally and externally
• Ability to understand and follow instructions
