JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Nursing Admissions Counselor coordinates the daily administrative operations for recruiting undergraduate, graduate and certificate nursing programs, student organizations, and special events. Serves as point-of-contact, within the College of Nursing Student Affairs, to assist potential applicants and customers within the University.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides ongoing communication and guidance to prospective students for all nursing programs. Participates in recruitment activities for all nursing academic programs. Evaluates transcripts to ensure criteria are met for admission (including GPA calculations) and advises the applicant on pathways to ensure meeting admission criteria. Provides individual responses by answering the phone and aiding visitors to gain access to Student Affairs orally via telephone, face-to-face meetings, virtual meetings, written letters, text, email inquiries, and telephone (as appropriate). Maintains ongoing and open communication with the UT Health Science Center Office of Enrollment Services, as well as with the College of Nursing Office of Academic Affairs. Communicates to the Assistant Dean any variation or potential issues with the admission process. Maintains current, accurate, and secure student-oriented tools related to the Office of Student Affairs, including internally developed files and files shared with the UT Health Science Center Office of Admissions. Maintains a current, accurate database of individual applicant inquiries, including current applicant status as it relates to the admission counselor role. Develops reports throughout the application process on efforts of pre-admissions advising, coaching, and mentoring. Participates in committees and meetings and completes weekly and monthly reports as requested. Coordinates planning and assigning the team tasks for orientation events including university, college of nursing, and program orientation. Assists with planning, coordinating, and executing activities related to prospective, current students, and alumni. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of related work experience in admissions and outreach activities. Demonstrated experience collaborating with partners and stakeholders, including high schools, community colleges, undergraduate institutions, influencers/advisors, and community-based groups; OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year related work experience in admissions and outreach activities. Demonstrated experience collaborating with partners and stakeholders, including high schools, community colleges, undergraduate institutions, influencers/advisors, and community-based groups; OR a combination of related education and work experience to equal six (6) years. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of graduate and undergraduate recruitment and advising in health sciences higher education setting preferred.
- Skills related to data collection, non-academic student support programs, and oral presentations to key stakeholders preferred.
- Ability to utilize best practices related to student recruitment; knowledge of Client Relations Management Systems (EMP) is a plus.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters.
- Ability to work in a team environment and maintain excellent working relationships.
- Ability to plan and organize work and multi-task. Excellent customer service skills.
