The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge, skills and networks to design policies, implement programs, and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world. We offer a PhD degree in International Studies and Master’s degrees in International Development, Human Rights, International Studies, Global Finance, Trade & Economic Integration, Security, and Public Policy. Position Summary

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver seeks to hire adjunct faculty from an applicant pool for the academic year of 2021/22. Adjunct faculty teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. Instructors will likely be required for courses in the degrees in Global Economic Affairs, Global Environmental Sustainability, Human Rights, International Development, International Security, and International Studies. We also seek instructors for our certificates in Global Environmental Change and Adaptation, Global Business and Corporate Social Responsibility, Global Health Affairs, Homeland Security, Humanitarian Assistance, Public Diplomacy, and Religion and International Affairs.

Essential Duties

Job requirements for undergraduate classes include teaching a 10-week course on campus in two sessions of 110 minutes each per week, holding weekly office hours (either on campus or virtually, via Zoom video-conferencing), assigning and evaluating papers and exams as appropriate, and being available to assist students with course requirements. Job requirements for graduate classes include teaching a 10-week course on campus in one session of 170 minutes each per week, holding weekly office hours (either on campus or via Zoom video-conferencing), assigning and evaluating papers and exams as appropriate, and being available to assist students with course requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree or ABD in a relevant field.
• Previous teaching experience (e.g. as a Teaching assistant with classroom discussion sections and grading responsibilities as part of a Master's or Doctoral program) and clear promise of ability to teach at the college level.
• Evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods to engage diverse student populations effectively.
• Experience or willingness to learn course management software for teaching online or conventional classes (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, or similar), especially features including assignment submission, discussion boards, quizzes, announcements, files, and the gradebook.
• Availability to teach classes “face-to-face” in physical classrooms at the University of Denver.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant field.
• Previous experience teaching a university-level course as the primary instructor.
• Experience interacting with and effectively teaching diverse communities of students.
• Experience using Zoom video-conferencing and the following features of the Canvas course management system: assignment submission, discussion boards, quizzes, announcements, files, and the gradebook.

Course Rate

The course rate ranges from $4,500 to $7,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
