JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Services Coordinator will provide regional instructional leadership and comprehensive coordination of student services and action plans related to special education, counseling, and family engagement. This position will collaborate with school staff and various internal and external stakeholders to meet Program goals and standards, Program compliance and reporting, and to ensure students access resources and benefits to support their academic success.

Program Coordination:
  • Monitor Program progress; implement measures to improve/enhance instructional services to students
  • Identify, select, and facilitate the integration of related services into general and special education programs to meet student needs
  • Collaborate with other managers and staff to meet Program goals, and to improve efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services
  • Collaborate with School Administration on the selection of curriculum that is aligned with the State core curriculum
  • Organize and/or conduct training and Professional Development related activities
  • Partner with school staff to develop opportunities for parents who have limited English proficiency, a disability or are underrepresented because of social economics or racial barriers to participate in education initiatives and enrichment workshops
  • Collect and analyze student data for State, Local Education Agency (LEA), and internal reporting
  • Monitor Program related expenditures
  • Use current research to develop and implement service delivery models
  • Communicate related Program changes and updates to staff and Administrators
  • Work with school leadership to resolve complaints and concerns of students and parents
  • Monitor all related contracted service providers and consultants
  • Provide management with statistical and project/program progress reports
  • Keep current on State Education legislative updates pertaining to State educational standards
  • Keep current on new instructional methods and practices
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Family Engagement:
  • Plan, coordinate and implement research-based strategies for the region for Family Engagement Program to engage parents in improving student achievement at home, off school site and in the local community
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and state organizations to create opportunities to help families understand school academic standards, assessments and report cards
  • Provide workshops, classes, and activities for parent at their local school(s) on a regular basis
  • Conduct surveys to assess the needs of parents

School Counseling:
  • Plan, coordinate and support the School Counseling Program
  • Provide oversight of the Student Success Team (SST) process

Special Education:
  • Plan and coordinate the provision of instructional services, the Individual Education Plan (IEP) in compliance with special education laws, regulations, and SELPA and LEA requirements
  • Monitor, facilitate and supervise the implementation of Section 504 Plans
  • Represent the school at SELPA meetings, School Board meetings
  • Support and address tasks associated to due process filings
  • Complete required State reports and SELPA reports


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage, coordinate, supervise, coach, and direct the hiring, training, or performance evaluations of team members and oversee their daily activities


Qualifications

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and State Education Code in pertaining to delivery of special education services
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles and accepted practices, current trends, and research in the field of special education, school counseling, family engagement/involvement
  • Knowledge of educational program improvement strategies and at-risk student indicators
  • Ability to interpret the application of law and regulations pertaining to public schools
  • Ability to comprehend data and explain effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Strong commitment to team-work, problem-solving, and collaboration
  • Ability to take initiative, independent judgment and service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with a variety of professionals
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to conduct oral presentations to convey information to large groups of people
  • Ability to use technology software applications for data collection and analysis
  • Ability to handle high volume work and multiple competing tasks

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor Degree required. Masters Degree preferred
  • Valid State Teaching Credential or State Pupil Personnel Services credential required; Valid State Administrative Services Credentialed preferred
  • Prior teaching experience required
  • Experience with education software and student information systems
  • Intermediate or Advanced, or Expert skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

TRAVEL: Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination, high people engagement
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time, and occasionally exerts up to 10 lbs. of force (almost all office jobs)
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures
