Purpose

Assist in the processing and preparation of immigration documents for J-1 Exchange Visitors and employment-based visas. Issue documents for J-1 Exchange Visitors. Support regulatory requirements of the U.S. Department of State J-1 Exchange Visitor Program for faculty, scholars, and customized program participants. Ensure university compliance with federal regulations keeping detailed records. Provide excellent communication to international faculty and researchers and campus community.

Responsibilities

Communication, Outreach, and Support: Correspond and communicate with international scholars and university departments on various issues associated with J-1 Exchange Visitors. Monitor, respond, and triage emails sent to scholar advising team inbox. Identify and recommend updates to website pertaining to international faculty and scholars and their sponsoring departments. Participate in the implementation and delivery of various programming activities throughout the year.

Immigration Compliance/Administration: Serve as Alternate Responsible Office to perform administrative tasks and support federal program compliance including monitoring and executing compliance reports within stringent deadlines. Review documents submitted by prospective scholars and sponsoring departments in preparation of DS-2019 issuance and mail issued documents. Issue DS-2019 documents for J-1 Exchange Visitors. Work closely with front desk staff to triage telephone and walk-in inquiries from international faculty and researchers and sponsoring departments. Work collaboratively with scholar advising team. Identify issues affecting ISSS service delivery.

Support of ISSS Functions: Provide support to overall functions of office where needed. Actively support the critical priorities of ISSS and Texas Global. Serve on internal committees and participate in work groups to support the mission of the unit.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year of related international experience. Effective problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative. Evidence of strong organizational abilities and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume, environment. Excellent written communication skills with a high attention to detail. Ability to be diplomatic, composed, and proactive in varied interactions. Strong understanding of intercultural communication with documented experience in public speaking and delivering presentations. Excellent professional demeanor. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Commitment to high quality and efficient customer service to faculty, staff, and external partners. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Due to federal database access requirements, only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents may apply for this position.

Direct experience advising international faculty and scholars on J-1 regulations in a university context.

Salary Range

$48,000
