Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Political Science in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in International Security. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
The successful candidate’s scholarship and teaching should concentrate on international relations and international security, focusing on one or more of the following areas: strategic studies, cybersecurity, terrorism and counterterrorism, critical security studies, human security, and environmental security. The individual will be expected to work with our college’s Global and International Studies program. The expected teaching load will be two courses a semester. This individual will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, perform research in their area of expertise, and contribute to service.
This tenure-track Assistant Professor position entails conducting research leading to publication, engaging in creative and/or scholarly activities, designing graduate and undergraduate courses, developing and implementing new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, mentoring and evaluating students, creating interest and understanding among students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus an in related professional organizations, and participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

- A Ph.D. degree in Political Science or International Relations with a specialization in international security or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment
- A demonstrated ability to teach an undergraduate Introduction to International Relations course
- An ability to teach some combination of the following courses at the undergraduate or graduate level: International Conflict and National Security Policy, Theories of International Relations, and American Foreign Policy
- Record of successful research and publication (e.g., journal articles published in reputable outlets)
- A well-defined research agenda that focuses on international security
- Evidence of effective teaching (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabus, teaching portfolio)
